A few laminating questions
I want to laminate a bunch of 1/8” strips together to make a new blank.
First question. Will the blank still need to be hung for a long period of time to see if it is going to warp? Second question. Does the epoxy need to be thickened some? Last question. Is there any disadvantages to laminating the thinsteips? Thanks |

Re: A few laminating questions
I would not thicken the epoxy since there will be a lot of joints, and all that epoxy could make the blank pretty heavy. I would make the joints as thin as possible, just be sure there is squeeze out all along all of the joints. Don't worry about squeezing too much epoxy out, just be sure there are no dry parts of the joint without squeeze out. With strips that thin, you should have a stiff, straight piece on each side of the blank with clamps clamping the two strips every 6" or so. Check the surfaces of the lams to make sure there are no ridges that would prevent the surfaces from being in total contact all along the lam, and that each lam is uniform thickness all along it's length.
A week is long enough to hang it. If it's going to warp, it will do it by then. |
