shane,
how do the catfish do in your quarries? I've thought about putting some in a local quarry near my house.

they seem to do fine. i spear in a clay pit that i know was stocked several years ago and they have flourished. all the quarrys around here seem to have a healthy population of cats and bass and bream and they have never been stocked that i know of.

around here, central alabama, the only place with decent vis are rock quarrys. no spear fishing pressure in the ones i frequent so the fish are not too skiddish. i like the quarrys cause it takes a lot to cloud em up . i went right after the hurricane and the vis was still about 10 feet.

Shane- I know it's an old thread but I was trying to find a rock quarry where I could spear some fish. If you know of any you wouldn't mind me knowing about I'd appreciate it!

Re: rock quarry pictures

What about noodling them? I imagine some hog dog pieces would work well to bring them in and stick your thumb in their mouths to grab a hold of them. I imagine those clean water catfish would taste pretty good.

Re: rock quarry pictures

I was catching bait in a narrow canal in order to go fishing. I caught a sorry saltwater catfish in my net along w/ some other bait. By the time I got that fish out my net he dropped about 20 whole sea grapes out of his mouth. Hell, I almost had enough to make some jam. Sea grape jam rocks.

That quarry has awesome vis for freshwater, the ones down here rarely have vis over 20 feet.Never tried sea grapes, but I am going to harvest some soon.
