Newest HeadHunter Boat
Thought I'd post a few pic's of my latest creation. Bought the hull last June and Ricky and I have been doing a complete rebuild on her ever since.
She's a 44' Hurricane, based on the Tempest 44' Hull from the 80's and 90's. Kevlar lay-up, vinylester resin, Nida-Core Wheelhouse, decks etc. Dry hull weight of 7400 Lbs, ( yes I weighed it). Lightweight and strong. 25 degree deadrise, 9'4" beam. Sleeps 6, 54 Tanks, 450 fuel. Still got a month left on the punch list. Should have her diving by spring. Powered her with twin 2014 Generation 3 Yammi V-8's. Gen 3's are about 40 Lbs lighter and 14% better on mid range fuel than the Gen 1 and 2's. Ran her a little the other day and the results were amazing. Here's a few pic's....can't wait to spear something big off of her!

Re: Newest HeadHunter Boat
Even a 44 footer doesn't make those V-8's look small......

Re: Newest HeadHunter Boat
Will post some more pic's with more specs as they become available. Will probably post some pics in the future with a fish or two in the foreground.

Re: Newest HeadHunter Boat
Dan, great looking rig. How about the fish boxes? We all know they have to be big to fit all those "big" fish. You guys have a name for her? Looking forward to the fish pics from your first trip. Have fun-Jose.

Jose, 4500 Easy. Thanks for compliments. Lot of thought went into her. Most likely will name her HeadHunter or HeadHunter 44.

Impressive, very impressive. You guys have skills that I envy. I'd love to know your thoughts on what you changed from the contender. Also, what electronics will be going in this one?

After much much research I decided on the tempest 44' Hull as the best choice for me. The additional 12 feet of waterline length compared to my Contender was exactly what was needed. The Hull's weigh within a few Lbs of each other but The extra 12 feet on the Hurricane allow for more payload. She's big enough to hold the gear needed for long trips, and seaworthy enough to handle whatever comes her way. These boats usually had a pair of 2000-2500 Lb. Diesels in them, so 1600 Lbs. for the combined outboards isn't a big deal. She'd perform fine with a pair of 300's but the 350's are the right choice for the extra heavy dive loads I'm planning for her. Only had her out for one day but the results far exceeded my expectations. I propped her with big 16" 4 blades for mid-range speeds and still saw almost 50K on the GPS. That's with "tight' motors and not trying to wring another knot or two out of her. 60 MPH would be no problem at all, remember that's with twins on a 44' boat! The coolest thing so far, was the fact that with the tabs down, she ran 21K at 2500 RPM with a combined Fuel Burn of 12.8 GPH (1.64 NMPG). Nothing straining, just easing along at 21K. Even with a properly balanced dive load, she should easily do 21K at 16GPH for 1.3NMPG. Nice easy cruise. I think at 4000 she was doing 33.6K and 4700 was 40K. I'll def fill in some more figures and pics when possible. Thanks for the interest. Dan
