Menocino Kayak Catamaran For Sale
I am placing this add in the California section because it is a local pickup only, unless I will be traveling to the area of the buyer.
I bought 2 of these kayaks a couple of months ago. I am keeping one. Up for sale is a used Mendocino Kayak catamaran. Other than being a little weathered, it is in excellent condition. There were only about 25 of these kayaks ever made. The company went out of business within 1 year due to the economy. These were built in 2007 for use along the California coast. It measure just under 11’ long and 37” wide. These kayaks can hold a lot of weight. I took my brother-in-law up to one of the local lakes for some fun. He is 6’1” tall and weights 272lbs. The kayak had no problem supporting his weight and still could hold more with no problem. Just to show how stable it is, he was easily able to stand up on it while out in the water. As a catamaran, it is designed for stability, not for speed. So, don’t plan on racing the Scupper Pro’s or the Prowler’s. It does track very nicely and moves along very smooth. We rode them into the wake of several boats on the lake and it went through them like they were not even there. My brother-in-law could not believe how nice these kayaks were compared to the other types and models that he was used to riding in. Another added benefit to this kayak is that if you so choose, you can add up to a 3hp outboard to the back of the kayak. It is designed for this. All of the straps and buckles have been replaced. I also replaced the front hatch with a new one that has been sealed with marine silicone. The old one was a screw-in type. I did not like it so I replaced it with a cam-lock style hatch (much easier to open and close). There are also adjustable foot rests that are already installed. This auction will come with a 2-piece paddle and seat. Surprisingly, the seat rides high and is very comfortable, especially for those who have back issues. Also, I want to mention that in the back of the kayak, there are 2 circles that can be cut to put in new 6”hatches, if you so desire (see pictures). These kayaks originally listed for $1200, not including the seat or the oars/paddles. Remember, these kayaks are no longer in production and will be hard-pressed to find a kayak that is a catamaran. I am asking $650 for the kayak, paddles and seat. I am also open to reasonable offers.

Wow, cool 'yak.
How much does it weight Bryan? Looks like a real stable kayak and can carry a lot of gear. |

Re: Menocino Kayak Catamaran For Sale
Sorry, but no. It's a one person kayak. But I'll bet it could hold two guys your size with no problem (not recommended).

I haven't weighed it, but I would guess around 65lbs.

I have this exact kayak in grey. I believe you can mount a small motor on the back, which would be awesome. It's a bit hard to take through the surf, bit it's solid as a rock. I stand up on mine and fish from it in the bay.

Re: Menocino Kayak Catamaran For Sale
Were they new when you bought them or used? Just curious.

Re: Menocino Kayak Catamaran For Sale
Lee,
I found these kayaks on Craigslist. They are one of the most unique kayaks that can be found and it's no longer being made. I only wanted one, but they guy I bought them from said he'd only sell them as a set. So, I bought both and sold the other to recoup my cost. At this time, I am working on the one I kept and tricking it out for diving. I will be adding gun holders to both sides on the kayak and adding 2 more hatches to the back. It should look great and be a fish killing transporter real soon. When I finish it I will post pictures. I presently have two kayaks, including the Mendocino kayak. I am considering selling my Scupper Pro, but if I do i will be replacing it with a Wilderness Systems Tarpon 160. I am just not happy with the stability of the Scupper Pro as a big guy. I scuba dive also and would like the tankwell instead of just 2 hatches.

I had the Cobra FishnDive XF. It was stable, fast and had a 600lb payload. I will miss it but not enough room and not enough time... |
