There is nothing more to say. The video says it all. Look up SWB in the search function in the grey header line.

Re: Three more blackouts!

WOW...
I'm new to diving and I've done a couple free dives with a buddy of mine who's NAUI certified and he's warned me about this sort of thing but I never really let it sink in... Seeing this video really freaked me out and has really put a sort of 'reality' to the concept...
Thank you for scaring the shiz out of me!!!!

Re: Three more blackouts!

scuba and freediving have different dangers associated with them. but ultimately, diving is extremely dangerous. luck wil do you no good if you are ill prepared with knowledge and equipment.

Re: Three more blackouts!

Great job, Mr. Maas. As a younger diver, it is very eye opening to see it happen to people around my age. Thanks!

Thanks for posting the movie - just lets you know how important your dive buddy is and what responsibility divers really have for their buddies

Watch out in pool too. An entire swim team waited for a friend to come back from an underwater lap only to find he passed out just after pushing off the wall. The coach standing above us noticed him on the bottom and jumped in to get him out. He rocovered completely, but is was an eye opener for me. Having a buddy looking out is a great habit to get into.

Re: Three more blackouts!

A big shout out to Terry for this important effort and the invention of the Freedive Recovery Vest. A few years ago a close diving buddy had a deep water black out and catastrophe was avoided only by the good fortune of having a buddy right there to rescue him. It reminded us of the importance of diving with a buddy, but all too often in the quest for fish we hunt alone. This reality along with two children now as part of my family led me to purchase an FRV from Terry.

While on spring break with the kids in Hawaii I have been diving alone all week but with the FRV. While the FRV is not a replacement for a good buddy, it is an excellent safety advancement for our sport. After using the vest for more than 8 hours I am amazed at how quickly I have acclimated to it. No noticeable drag or change to my diving at all. You do notice it initially when surface swimming but even that quickly goes away. After a little practice it becomes as second nature as using a pressure gauge or diving computer for scuba. Best of all was when my wife asked if is was safe for me to be diving alone - it was great to let her know that I had the FRV. Life is too precious not to protect it. Not to mention making sure you come back home to dive again another day. Terry thanks for the FRV.

Re: Three more blackouts!

Great video!

I've SWB'd... Always have one up. One time I was maybe 6' below the surface on a blue water dive in Fiji. Another wase within 15-30 seconds after coming up on an a free in Monterey Bay. Had it not been for my partner holding my arm for the the 30 second ok, I'd be dead.
