Re: Daily Vis report thread

So this happened yesterday
Got seriously hassled by a state police officer. He was dispatched to the railroad bridge to check on me for some reason. He was standing on the rr tracks. Asked how I was and then saw the striper attached to my belt with my tog. He asked if it was 28". I said yes then he started raising his voice calling me a liar and that I had to get out of the water. He made me go to his car at that point. Once I got there he told me he was going to call the warden once he measured the fish and that I would be fined. I told him it was a legal fish again and he got more angry and then found his tape measure. He measured the fish and it came up 33.5" and I looked at him as he had this disappointing look on his face and I told him nicely that I had spearfishing for many years I don't take short fish and asked if I was then free to leave. Then he said I need your drivers license and I asked if this was turning into a motor vehicle stop since I was parked legally. He said don't ask questions and asked again. I said it's in my car way over there but I know my number. I gave it to him and he said I could go to my car but not to go anywhere till he got there. He then drove away bout 5 minutes later. Here's a pic of the fish in question next to my Abellan 90 gun

Trouble for no other reason than challenging the sensitive ego of a man, not for challenging the Authority.

Asking if you can leave after committing no infraction is like Resisting the Law... "the defendant was Resisting the Law during arrest for committing no infraction".
Yep, from the police point of view, you committing an infraction or not is irrelevant. You must comply no matter what...but yes, your description shows al little bit of abuse from the police officer.

Anyways, If you were a minority, you'd have a case for abusive 'profiling', but you are not. On the other hand, if left unchecked, the police officer' sensitive ego may cause harm to others.

Unbelievable they have nothing better to do than harass a good American enjoying nature and doing absolutely nothing wrong... Pathetic... The guys probably too much of a p*ssy to go deal with actual criminals

Unfortunately I did not. I just wanted to get out of there as quickly as possible without aggravating the matter. This whole thing already had me over an hour late to dinner plans with the fam.

Re: Daily Vis report thread

Just my two cents.
I always cooperate with the police. They are people just like you and I trying to do a job. For the most part thats the way they are but this officer had a mindset going in that you were a criminal. I think the way you handled it was great and you changed his mind but I am sure he was too proud, too busy, etc
to admit it. They sure are great when you need them , right?

Anyone going to take look Saturday at BI? Debating taking a look or just surfing. September has been rough for shore dives... I want to put some meat in my cooler!

Re: Daily Vis report thread

Dove in the manasquan river, cloudy 5-7 ft, shot an 18" tog and saw a ton of healthy bass, they're defintely there but didn't stay around too long, good to get in after what was a very busy summer.

Brooklyn's bays have been pretty clear on the surface, but quickly get dark and scary below 10'. Still, much better than 2 weeks ago!

RV GOAT dive report 10-7-2017
We hit several low wood wrecks just East of Barnegat Inlet . Depth 65 to 75 ft. Vis about 15 to 20 ft and bottom temp was warm ( no one looked at the temp). Not a lot of fish around but we did well with large lobster. Many of the female lobster are starting to load up on eggs so we only took males. Most were between 2.5 and 5lbs with only a few smaller ones.
