to bring the gun, or not bring the gun...

Last time I was in Maui, I took my 90cm gun. Took a long time to figure out what fish I could shoot, and which I couldn't. Ended up hiring a guide, which was the best thing I could have done.

Ultimately decided the only thing I really want to hunt are ROI. Now I'm going back on a 10 day vacation with my wife, kids, and another family. The wife said she doesn't want me spending all my time hunting, and initially I wasn't even gonna bring a gun, but I just think I'll get over there, see tons of ROI, and wish I had my gun.

Last trip we stayed in Kaanapali, but this time we'll be in Lahaina. (Not that far away)

I guess my biggest concern is that after the last trip I learned that any of the reef fish can have cigaterra sp?, and since I'm not going into blue water, I'm not interested in hunting food, just going for the invasive.

So, what are the local's opinions? Should this haole come shoot ROI, or just take pictures?

Ron.

If all your doing is hunting Roi, go for it.
You can even donate them to the D.A.R. office , for science.
Or the aquarium, for shark food.

The real question is , will your wife forgive you ....

I think so. If I share the gun with my sons, who are becoming better freedivers than I am, it'll help.

I like the idea of donating ROI to the aquarium for shark food.
