Re: California Dive Boats -- the legend of Radon (pictures)
I've got a buddy who's a deckhand on the 'Triton'. I've long been a fan of that boat, as are many guys once they'd laid eyes on her. Apparently, they've been up on the hard and having some work done (*nothing unusual here, the owner is widely known for the highest level of maintenance and attention to detail...). Here's what he said-
"...The original plan was to be out of the water (work) for three to four weeks. We all know what was going to happen though. Boats; always takes twice as long and twice as expensive as you what you plan on. But we eventually got 'er done... Eventually, we had liftoff and she hit the water after two months. We never finished re-spraying the house. Guess that happens on our next haulout. New gel coat/paint, non skid, decks, new tanks, serviced screws, serviced compressors (*high pressure, low, nitrox system) and of course replacement of everything that looked somewhat old. New gen-set, and two brand new mains, Cummins Qsc 8.3 500s. And she flies!..." |

Also, on a sadder note, Victor Garcia passed away recently, owner of Garcia Boatworks in Ventura. Victor worked on a lot of the local dive/sport boats, and was highly regarded by many and will be missed. RIP. I only met him a few times, but several of my buddies had minor to extensive work done there, and everybody seemed to come away satisfied with great quality work.
One such customer, Paul Kuhn, had Victor, do a major job on his Anderson 26. He commented, 'It was such a pleasure to work with Victor Garcia when he did the remodel on my boat. The work he did was great and he was a rarity in today’s world in the sense that he did his work on time and on budget. And did so with a great demeanor and attitude...' Some photos of Paul's boat, M/V Emerald City, are shown below- |

The "Disturbance" is a little tank. Great setup for fishing, diving, surfing adventures. Could use a tuneup on the engine or get a new one and you'll have an absolutely killer boat. Cabin is a lot bigger than you'd expect on a 22ft-er.

Tommy7- thanks for the link. I'm going to throttle waaay back until April, which as I know is high season so that'll push anything back until Winter '15.
Yeah, I've called and left messages but no return calls. I know it was during the holidays and all. Whatever happened to the Chaz 22 molds? |
