Lobster diving with a Scooter

Recent dive in cold upwelling water. Depth was around 90, temp was around 52 dwgrees - very cold for Palm Beach in August. We were unprepared with 2-3 mm suits. Lobsters were very slow and there were a lot on this one dive.

I'm only 10 minutes into it - have to leave and take care of some things - but like how you started out with the tickle and net technique, then said screw this, only need to tickle and grab, then changed to grab only

Re: Lobster diving with a Scooter

Thanks for sharing Jim. I've been wearing 2 of those mako suits in this recent cold water and have been quite comfortable. Lobsters have been plentiful. I came up on one small rock and it looked like keys mini season. over 30 lobster under one 6ft table rock. There was nowhere for them to go they were packed so tight. Just reach in and grab one after another.

Yeah the video is long and I definitely figured out that you just needed to grab them and not mess with a net. When the water is 85 degrees they are a lot faster! Also someone asked, if this was recreational fishing- it wasn’t.

Re: Lobster diving with a Scooter

I remember diving off Cape Canaveral quite a few years ago when the thermocline was in the mid 40's. The snapper were belly up under the ledges, the moray's were just floating in the current, and we just swam up and picked up the lobster. We had to check them by smell later on the boat

Was out there too, frigid.

So cold that I started to tremor, thought maybe crapped my wet suit so came up.
