Re: Project Boat Discussion: Tips, Ideas, Mistakes...
I may have mentioned it, but we're raising the deck on the B25 by 3 inches. This should guarantee a self bailing boat regardless of weight sitting aft, yet still be plenty safe. The hull will have side scuppers in the corners forward of the transom box.
So here you see our coosa stringer extensions dryfitted waiting to be glasses in. Next week we'll get the deck in and transom box finished. Then we'll move on to the fish box and scuba tank storage benches. |

Nice work. Reminds me of what I did to my Ocean Master. As you know, I'm working on a Seacraft and doing the same deal basically. Keep em' coming. Love it.

You will never regret the side scuppers. Total game changer on my SeaCraft build.

I don't think a lot of these boat building engineers out there put much thought into it. Man there are some terrible designs out there (my old boat included)... and they wonder why their boats sink. |

I agree with the side scuppers. My commercial boat had them but we had a splash/spray problem sometimes with water shooting onto the aft deck through the scupper. I solved it by installing a 4" wide plastic 1/2 round cylinder shaped cover on the scupper opening (closed in the front and open in the back) and it worked great. There was no air lock/flow restriction with that 4" opening in the aft drain side. You may not have the issue with your hull but when we had a quartering sea the water shooting into that scupper was a real PITA especially in the winter.

It's all coming back together. I have a deck!!! Still needs a layer of mat and 1708, but it's in. Next up is the fish box which will be inside the pilot house under the deck. The plan is to build and insulate it out of laminated 2" RF foam board. I figure it should be able to hold about a thousand pounds of fish.
Here's an update on my layout. As you can see and as I predicted, it's changed. |

Nice work James! 1,000lbs of fish....you think that's enough? After you are done with boat you'll be looking for a 2nd hand commercial ice machine

If I decide to get into commercial fishing I want to be able to have the capacity while keeping the deck clear of coffin boxes or coolers. Even recreationally though when everything is open at the same time, I bet ~500 pounds would be a rec limit day for 4 shooters between the grouper, red snapper, hogs, mangos and lionfish. Not to mention the odd fish that might get landed here and there. It would be a great day for sure and definitely would not happen near shore. |

It’s coming together nicely! Looks like you’re upping the HP to twin 200’s now? Good move if so!
