AJ in state waters

Are there any AJ in state waters? If I did see one would it be considered a game fish and legal to spear in state waters

Re: AJ in state waters

Almaco Jack are often confused as Juvenile Amberjack! Lesser and greater are found in waters of 100' and greater.. I personally haven't seen a Greater within (state waters out to 9 miles) but to say do they come up inshore? Would be very interesting to see one! do they exist? Maybe but the rules are clearly written for statewaters!

Re: AJ in state waters

I have seen a few almaco jacks too. They are like a smaller version of aj with slightly different dorsal fin. Very similar look to aj. We went to federal water and the aj were everywhere but couldn't shoot any.
