Re: Jail for Lionfish
All charges are dropped. No penalty is rendered, they don't even have to pay court costs and simply have to return the disputed disbursement.
Why would they hide from any of this? Not only are they not guilty, the initial charges have been dropped. FWC must not have had a strong case, they must have spent a lot of government money to attempt a sting, engage in surveillance, attorney fees and staff time and the culmination is that all charges are dropped and there is ZERO recovery of all the costs the State incurred to pursue this. Sounds like the FWC shouldn't be wasting all our money on such weak cases.

Re: Jail for Lionfish
Or more like....
The pics looked fake. They issue the tickets and do the arrest on the obvious fakes. Witnesses don't cooperate (because they are scared, as they are in on it) and the cost of forensic computer testimony is too great for $10,000 crime. So at least they get the $10k back

FWC losses money and demonstrates an inability to manage a program and/or enforce laws... There is no effective deterrent since the worst that can possibly happen is that you have to return the money? Sorry, but once again I am unimpressed with FWC.

JFJF,
Thanks for the devil's advocacy. You've made the thread more interesting.

Re: Jail for Lionfish
The devil deals in contracts. Sounds like they had a really good devil whip up some word magic to spell their way out. Was it the FWC or the Justice (Just us) system or both? Regardless, SharkTales are known scammers.

LOOOLLL.... OJ was innocent too.... I have not visited this site in years, I popped to see comments on this matter... Well paid attorney got them out of trouble. State probably needed to spend considerable amount of money in photo forensics to make a case...

Re: Jail for Lionfish
I'm not sure how this cases relates to OJ, then again, there is a good chance a bloody gloves was involved here as well.

Re: Jail for Lionfish
The point is, the fact charges were dropped does not necessarily mean they didn't do it...

They should have gotten jail time, had to pay restitution in the amount of all the invoices they submitted (whether they got paid for them or not), had to pay court cost and lost their fishing license, recreational or commercial, for five years. |
