Freedive Spearfishing Charters?

So I live in Orlando and I SCUBA dive. I mainly dive in Jupiter and West Palm. I don't have a boat here. I recently started spearfishing and I love it. I am interested in also doing some spearfishing while freediving but I can't seem to find any charters that offer that. I can SCUBA and spearfish on most charters in Jupiter and West Palm but West Palm seems to have some shallow enough spots to do some freediving. I suppose more advanced freedivers also spearfish in Jupiter.

So my basic question is are there any charter boats that cater to freedivers or do I need to make some friends with boats? If there are no charters that offer freediving is it due to some sort of liability issue or something that I am not thinking about? Thanks in advance!

Hey Scott, My name is Capt. Steve-o I run Treasure coast Charters and own Treasure coast Dive Center. I operate my boat out of Ft. Pierce and Sebastian. I run freedive and scuba spearfishing trips. Actually im the only boat out of this area! We are also the only Freedive/spearfishing shop This far north. I carry all big brands of spearfishing/freedive gear. Re: Freedive Spearfishing Charters?

Hi Steve-O. I actually found your charter on google or facebook a week or so ago. I saw something about $400 for a half day or something like that. That is typical private charter pricing. I am one guy and don't usually have a dive buddy. When I SCUBA dive I show up at the Kyalami, or some other boat in Jupiter or W. Palm and pay $80 to dive with 20 or so other people. Obviously hunting charters will be a smaller group of people but I just want to pay a portion of the charter cost and don't always have someone else to go with me. Maybe I will find a day where you already have some other folks signed up and I can jump on. Being new to freediving I am guessing I am probably only good to 50' or so.

Re: Freedive Spearfishing Charters?

Splashdown Dive Charter in Boynton is interested in doing Freedive spearfishing charters. I believe the fee would be about $72 per person, for a half day trip length trip--say around 4 hours.. They need a minimum of 4 people to do this, and this would be weekdays, preferably at around 4pm . For info, their number is 561-736-0712. Best success for spearfishing is north of the Boynton inlet...though they may want 6 people rather than 4 as minimum to go as far as Horseshoe or Pauls Reef and Casino, all good for spearing. Depths are 55 on bottom of inshore ledge, 37 to 40 on top of crown, and 90 feet and deeper on the outside edge of the reef on the bottom.

I'm actually looking for the same. I will be down in Pompano area with my gear until the 21st and looking to get on a boat to shoot some fish. Looking for specifically a freedive charter. FII Level 1 certified as well.

The down side to these big boats that offer cheap prices is that you are diving with 10-20 other ppl at a time on a site that has been raided daily for the past 10 years. Check out my Facebook page. We actually get fish! The big ones!!! I am a private spearfishing charter. I don't just drop ppl on a dive site. I find fish!

Never dove with Steve-Oh but can attest, he sure does post plenty pics of nice fish! Some days I'm even jealous.
