Catalina Boat-In Camp Sites
Planning a mid September trip with some friends to Catalina. Planning on taking my 22' Center Console over and anchoring it in one of the Boat-In camp sites. Anyone have any recommendations on which is the best? All the sites are open currently with the exception of Rippers Cove which is booked.
Thanks for the help. Mike |

Two Harbors Camp Ground is beautiful in Sept. Typically its the best weather of the year and not crowded. You are walking close to town and the saloon. Its a great launch point for the rest of the island. Many great memories at this site. Have fun. Cheers, Kadman

^Seconded.
Little Harbor is also a great choice if you're seeking somewhere more remote and overall self-reliant. |

Get a mooring and a camp site at two harbors. You can send camping gear with your excess friends on the Catalina flyer.
I thought about camping at a boat in site, but the lack of fresh water, showers, tables, shade, convenient shitters, moorings.... just doesn't seem to be worth it. |

Wherever you stay, bring a couple of yellow jacket traps.
Those things are vicious! They are all over the place at Rippers so I'm assuming they are at the other boat in camps

I fished a couple weeks ago closer to Avalon and pretty close to shore. They were THICK! I ended up getting stung under my arm while putting my fishing rod into position. It sucked. Little bastards were relentless.

Little Gibraltar is pretty nice. Parsons has some amenities like toilets and such. Little Harbor is nice and protected. Italian Gardens is beautiful, but in an MPA.

Thanks guys. Good note about the wasps. I hate those things! We booked Paradise next to Rippers. Hoping the weather cooperates.
Cheers! |

Re: Catalina Boat-In Camp Sites
Two harbors is cool and has all you need but will be crowded vs the true boat in spots. Hit there to replish, get fuel and the bar before or after your dives. My son plucked his first urchin and lobster (released) right off the sling line there in June. If you can get around to backside do so.

Re: Catalina Boat-In Camp Sites
I would go with Cabrillo instead. Paradise is pretty exposed to the afternoon NE winds. Cabrillo has good protection behind the little Gibraltar point.

Bummer, we have already booked Paradise. I'll see if we can switch to Carrillo. Thanks for the heads up. Def want to be anchoring in a sheltered area.
