Spearfishing Huge Yellowtail in New Zealand

The latest video episode from my world spearfishing tour from when I was in New Zeland.

Spearfishing New Zealand Ep.2 Solo to the Coromandel is all about the week of adventure that lead me to the Coromandel. Which ended with the hardest fight for my largest fish.

Please watch on a large screen with full resolution.

Enjoy.

You captured some really good footage.

It scared me when you were fighting the big one from your kayak and not throwing your line back into the water, and not wearing your mask. One half hitch you would have been taken over by that powerful fish and then you wouldnt have been able to see cause your mask was off.

But, that didn't happen soo.. Nice ass fish dude! Looked fun!

Thank you for a great video and narration. It bring spear hunting back to reality when you say you got skunked one day and then how many hours you laid in the water without seeing a yellowtail ( kingfish )

My 4.4 meter Zodiac seems like a yacht compared to your kayak too.

Thanks again

Great Video! Really enjoyed it, thank you.

One question, and please forgive me if it stupid, as I am new to spearing. Aren't you worried about spearing yourself, with the way you haul the gun around by the hot end?

Hey Rolobingo,

It's a good question and one I get asked a lot.

In short yes it is dangerous.

I always consider my gun going off and when it is loaded I never point it at myself. The camera angles are a bit deceiving, but I am holding by the front muzzle and am using the outer edges of the camera frame for myself and the center for my subject/target.

Hope this helps, and when I get state side I will work on putting out a video on how I do this. Cheers
