"Meat Gazers Delight" a Crystal River Report

Sometimes one must experiment with different equipment and shooting styles to ensure he or she has afforded themselves the opportunity to advance his or her skills to highest possible level. So I took advantage of the warm water and relatively calm seas try out some of the speario methods and techniques so generously shared on the board. First, what to wear? With 79 degree water temps, there was not a better time to evaluate the benefits of that new Speedo tucked away in my dive bag…….Conclusion: Grouper are obviously “Meat Gazers”, All fish seemed immediately immobilized from the stealthness provided by my nut hugger. Large Gags seemed to almost happily have their eyes quickly pierced by my stringer…..Most odd, but very effective! Hogs and Mangos were also very easy to harvest, as many seemed to be slamming their faces into the rocks and cracks on the reef. Unfortunately I saw a large variety of sharks on almost every dive, but funny thing is not one of them seemed to make more than one pass before scampering away like scared cats. All in all a very successful day of spearing with a limit of gags and hogs and a few large mangos. My new rail gun proved to be a very effective weapon although to me is not very suited for inshore grouper, multiple fish harvesting situations. Most of the day I used the ol faithful hornet and also had a good dive with my pole spear. Note: To anyone taking advantage of the stealtness provided by a Speedo and exposing parts of their body that have not seen the light of day for many years………….Wear lots of sunscreen!!!!!! I did not and it’s not a pretty sight!!!

I believe these helpless reef fish may have been blinded by the initial sight of you in your speedo. Thus making them easy targets.

Where are the shrimp boots?

Never knew the fabric stretched so much. Are they as comfortable as they don't look?

Holy crap batman. Just shoot me in the eyes with that speargun. Please don't use you're pole though. Man you are the funniest redneck wanna-be I ever met moose. Great day on the water. Les

The pain...the pain...

The raindbow brigade must be rejoicing at their snoodling party, knowing they converted you to wear a nut hugger. I understand your trying to advance your skills and you need to experiment, but you dont have to admit it or take pics do you? I think you did better with your old way of shooting.

I think we need to take Moose to a strip club and remember to not go to bat for the other team.

Great report...Laughing my ass off as usual!

On a side note...is that your boat that you just took to get worked on? Did everything work out okay?

I don't think he shot those fish, the sight of that probably just scared them to death. And then they got tangled in the back hair!!
