Re: California Dive Boats -- the legend of Radon (pictures)

I'm posting this for a friend.....

26’ Anderson Custom Boat (Marine Star) with triple axle galvanized trailer for sale.

Marine Star was built in 2006 by Anderson Custom Boats and powered by a Volvo Penta D-4 260 diesel engine and Volvo Penta DP outdrive. I acquired her in 2010 along with a new Trailrite trailer. During 2013 Marine Star was repainted with Awlgrip LP paint, fitted with new tinted windows, and the electronics (Furuno GPS/Sounder/Radar) were updated. At the same time, Dan Shannon fabricated an entirely new custom stainless shade awning as well as replaced all stern railing, cabintop railings/rodholders, and fabricated a new VHF/radar tower.

From late 2015 to early 2016 Marine Star was repowered with a new Volvo Penta D-4 260 engine and Volvo Penta DP outdrive. Since the repower both the engine and outdrive have had five oil changes and related factory recommended maintenance. As of January 12, 2020 the new engine has 465 hours on it. Marine Star is fitted with an 8’6” x 44” wide fish hold, two 150 gallon fuel tanks, v-berth that sleeps three with under berth storage, custom cabin drop down canvas, new upgraded pilot house seats, custom cabin cushions, interior cabin carpeting, dive step with folding ladder, kelp cutter, hydraulic trim tabs, an electric/hydraulic brake system on the trailer, LED spotlight and LED deck lights. The electronics package also includes a Simrad 12A auto pilot, Furuno 1670F GPS/sounder, 1623 radar. VHF radios are Standard Horizon Matrix AIS/GPS 2200 VHF radio with a secondary/backup Uniden radio.

Included in the sale is a custom fitted Sunbrella canvas cover and extra set of DP props, and 35 gallon bait tank that mounts up in front of the engine box.

The boat has been lovingly cared for at the highest level, always flushed and kept under a cover, and is in like new condition. All paperwork and registrations are up to date.

Also available if interested: 2013 Dodge Ram 3500 diesel dually 4x4 with color matched shell, 37K miles.

If interested, please contact the owner directly at the email addie shown below. And please forward this email on to anyone you know who is in the market for a vessel of this caliber.

Asking $125,000

(*a new diesel Anderson 26 built out like this would be $200K+, plus two year’s worth of waiting...)

Qualified parties please contact Doug Hendry at dshcay@gmail.com for additional information, more photos, or to schedule a viewing-

Re: California Dive Boats -- the legend of Radon (pictures)

Over the years I've seen a lot of the classic Radon style cabins put on a lot of hulls other than the Radon - Wilson - Anderson templates. Must be some kind of Santa Barbara boatbuilding DNA going on. Seen some real turkeys - like 17' Whalers, but this one looks pretty clean.

That boat was built from Ole/Glen's 'Maui Cruiser' that got destroyed out at Talcott. It was taken and given (incredible) new life with this build. Bitchen movie, those guys did a heckuva job with both the boat and the video.

That was a good flick. I saw a Maui cruiser years ago for sale on CL. Maybe yellow? What's their history?

It's the same hull as a 20' Paragon Nokaoi. A mold was shipped over to the mainland from Hawaii in the 80's I believe, and hulls/boats were marketed as "Maui Cruisers." It's my understanding from a former owner that only 4 were made (Maui Cruisers) before the operation shut down.

Should go quick even if the glass work needed is significant

Re: California Dive Boats -- the legend of Radon (pictures)

Had my Wilson 1991 26ft for sale; and during the sea trial, the engine kept stalling out, and die. Hard to restart. Water in fuel. Of course sale fell through.

The aluminum saddle tanks had developed leaks from corrosion around the tanks, where foam caused rot. Does anyone have pictures, or are there any threads showing saddle tank removal? I have the Starboard deck almost, fully cut away to expose the tank. Now in the process of removal of the foam from the sides of the tank. I will pump out the remaining fuel, fill the tank with soapy water, then drill 2 inch holes in tank to run a chain through the holes for attempted hoist pull with engine hoist. I may have to cut out the tank in sections if the foam causes too much adhesion.

The foam to tank corrosion seems pretty severe on the top, where I can see the tank; after removal of deck and foam that was between the tank and decking. I don't see visible holes on top, but suspect waterlogged foam, was osmosing through micro holes into the tank. There was a 3/8" very inadequate weep drain hole, under the tank, back to the engine room. Of course, it was probably plugged many years ago. The decking was well made, of good marine plywood glassed top and bottom.

Removal of the foam between hull outboard, and tank is problematic. I may try to use a pressure washer. Have been hacking away with saws, crowbars, and roofing spade.

I tried posting pics but kept getting Internal failure of some sort.
