Re: Death Stick vs. Wong FF

Personally I think the mid-handle deathstick makes a great free dive gun. Mine should be finished soon.

Rich,

My Deathstick has a poured and machined epoxy track in it, and I have had it about 1.5 years now.

I can't say enough good things about the Deathstick.

Re: Death Stick vs. Wong FF

Ken can set the gun up for Scuba Shooters or Freedive shooters and this is a big advantage. The difference is basically how much of a set back is used when installing the trigger mechanism. Many Scuba Shooters (like myself) prefer to have the trigger setback at about 9 1/2 or 10". This basically creates a butt extension and moves the shaft wings farther up into your chest area, which makes the gun much easier to load. A freedive shooter may prefer to have a 6" or 7" setback (or less) which makes a lot more band pull in relation to the length of the gun. These are very important decisions that every shooter must be prepared to make when ordering a "custom built gun".

The first time I saw a Deathstick that was set up for a Scuba Shooter I said to myself............"If I was ever to design or build a speargun like that, that is exactly the way I would build it". Ken's work is impressive!

I agree 100%. Ken is building me a 55" triple band mid-handle. I figured it would be a KILLER long range or gulf /blue water gun. I f we hit a spot that is too deep for me to freedive I can swap out a line shaft for a freeshaft and freeshaft.

I hope that everyone here acknowledges the significance of this post. Kevin makes and sells spearguns. Ken is his direct competition, especially considering a relatively small local population of Spearboard members. For him to publicly praise Ken's guns is a tribute to the integrity of Kevin, as well as the quality of Ken's guns.
I probably sound like I'm blowing some serious smoke up some ass, but I wanted to point that out and it needed to be recognized.
I sort of own a Wong, but can't give any opinions on it until around the end of December or early January.
I've never owned a Deathstick but those that I know that have them, love them. Deadly (literally) accurate.

I award you no points. And may God have mercy on your soul...

Yes Bret, you are correct that those are the way they are currently being made.
But there have been quite a few guns manufactured and I have seen several sold on the secondary market now. People should know that a few have the
delrin track in them instead of epoxy.

Ken will custom make the guns however you want them but I dont think he is offering the delrin track any longer.
My personal favorite customization is the non enclosed track for the last 8 inches or so on the muzzle.
It allows me to load shafts much quicker and sight unseen unlike guns that have the completely enclosed track all the way to the end.

Was that 8" missing before you shot under the ledge or after?
