Small ID bands or regular size bands.

When buying bands will a small ID band stretch the same as a regular band? For instance I shoot a 62” band on my roller gun. Will a small ID band be easier to load than a regular band at the same length?

I think you should be more concerned about the od. If you are using a smaller od then the band will be weaker. Adding a little rubber into a 1/16” hole is not going to increase the cross sectional area of the band much.

Thanks jfjf I have 14mm small ID rubber that I got to try. My gun came with 5/8 inch and it’s hard for me to load. I was told to try 14mm small ID but don’t know if I should make my bands the same length or not. I watched a video by spearq8 were he talks about small ID bands.

Make them the same lenght. You can always cut if you need it.

Right now, I'm using lower modulus of elasticity 5/8" bands because they are easier to load than the regular bands. That is a function of chemistry of the band molecular structure rather than the band diameter. After sitting on my old lazy butt all winter I'm a little weak. Spearfishing is supposed to be fun and there's no need to struggle with pulling bands. Later this summer, I'll either shorten my current bands or go back to the standard material.

Based on research and what I've been told, the optimum band stretch is 300 to 400%. Going to a lower modulus of elasticity may well make it easier for you to load and still give maximum response from your bands. I agree that adding or taking away a little latex from the center of a band isn't going to make much difference.

Google latex bands. There are some interesting pieces discussing the subject.

Thanks DNAPL I’ll look it up. Yes being old doesn’t help lol. I’m 67 but still love diving and spear fishing so I have to adapt. I bought a pathos roller 115 so I can adjust the power on it as needed. So I’m looking for a happy medium but need the power for long shots fish are skittish in clear water in the Philippines.
