My 120 open pro easily has 5m range from the tip for anything I target here and is very easy to swim with. Small ID bands, 1.6mm mono and a Sigalsub 7mm shaft made a big difference for me from the stock configuration
I actually really like the Pathos 140. Currently I shoot it with a Riffe 9/32 shaft with Mori slip tip. It is accurate and has decent range out to a single wrap. But it looses power quickly after the single wrap and want to upgrade to a little more heavy duty gun that can shoot a 5/16 shaft well and to the end of a double wrap.

Try a 7.5mm shaft with 4-6in of overhang

I have not yet tried it in the water to check ballast and recoil but (relative to size) it has more mass and i guess density than my mahogany Denton 110. Also I like the spear and the Hunt slip tip with Dyneema for sure will kill fish just with its lethal looks. ;-)
By far your most important upgrade would be to get that new handle Harry has been working on. It really will dramatically reduce felt recoil and will make your shots go straight with no left shift no matter how hard you push your shafts. The double roller trigger is also nice but the gun will shoot very well without it. If you already have the DR trigger, plan it well before you actually start dremeling out wood. It really become very easy then. You might have to push the 2 arms a little forward, but it should be a very easy mod. Make sure you pay attention to perfect mech to shaft height.

Thanks Majd, I like the original handle very much and do not struggle to reach for the trigger but I can see how additional filler at the base of the fingers and a small rotation could help shift more of the impact on the palm. For the double roller mech do not have all the necessary tools and it feel a bit scary but I may try it first on my denton 110 before doing any other modifications on the teak/albacore.

Silvertriton, wow that abellan albacore is a beauty. Love the new teak version and Iím sure it will get you some great fish mate

Mattthemat, yeah the pathos line can really be pushed to perform. I wasnít a big fan of them initially and sceptical too but they are bloody great guns. All credit to the legend spearq8 and his YouTube channel. Saved me a lot of coin by sharing his testing. That fella hasnít steered me wrong yet. By years end, Iíll be picking up a big boy gun too.... now timber or carbon?

Behslayer, why did you opt to go for an ET on that gun?

Re: Thoughts on Abellan Albacore 130 vs Bleutec Oceanborn 125 & King Cobra

Billy, that's a pretty shallow Open Epoxy Track. Had a blank here with a poured track. If there was a shaft in you'd see that a 5/16" (8mm) shaft shows @ 4mm of depth. I tried that gun with a few set ups. It shot with very good range with an 11/32" Shaft in the pool. But on the prototypes I sent out for Field Testing all 3 of my testers put the gun through very extensive use and independently all said they prefer the 5/16 configuration for hunting. One of those testers took 3 Yellowfin over 200lbs with that gun with a 5/16" (and these were not the Handfeds in Ascension), as well as literally 50 Yellowfin over 100lbs, 100 Wahoo over 50lbs, and several King Mackeral over 50lbs so I guess it passes both the Mackeral and Tuna penetration tests. But at the same time a very nice set up for African Pompano, Burlying up Muttons or Uku.

Haha you joke about the tuna penetration test here and the mackerel test in another thread... cheeky cheeky. Put your money where your mouth is Billy. Put a gun in the pool and replicate spearq8s parameters

Am I the only one that’s tried to buy an albacore and got put on the back burner by Harry?

Re: Thoughts on Abellan Albacore 130 vs Bleutec Oceanborn 125 & King Cobra

we done plenty of testing and posted some of it here. our goal is dinner and we got so plenty dinners. i can shoot the 155RH in the pool with an 11/32" and get wow range all day long. but in the field, through independent sources our feedback was go with the 5/16" because it's a lighter hand and still has good range. but dont think for a minute we dont take this mackeral and tuna penetration testing seriously Billy.

that's the 155RH Carmina Delores Model

Re: Thoughts on Abellan Albacore 130 vs Bleutec Oceanborn 125 & King Cobra

Great fish pictures mate, would love to see this wow range in the pool too. Itd be a big selling point if your newer models can perform on par with these well designed euro cannons. If not, then back to the drawing board and continually improve your designs Thereís a lot to gain from static pool testing and hopefully your pride doesnít get in the way of it

The handful of top notch spearos Iíve dove with up in the coral sea use 130-140 railguns and take monsters. A young kid in Sydney took a 100+ kg marlin with a 120 reel gun from shore. Great advertisement for the brand, but pictures of fish with a gun next to it just doesnít do it for me anymore.

Back on track though... does anyone know the size of the Bleutec King Cobra? Is it between the raptor and ocean born?

You got any clips of static testing Billy or are you just here for the free peanuts?

Here's the little sister. 140RH (55" total length) 120cm band stretch.

Re: Thoughts on Abellan Albacore 130 vs Bleutec Oceanborn 125 & King Cobra

I thought that King Cobra was aimrite when this started too. That bleutec looks pretty neat, different than the other models for sure. Anyone know what the weight is?

I've shot the albacore quite a bit with an 8mm shaft and landed some nice wahoos at decent range. With an 8.5/8.7mm shaft it's a whole different animal. Range and knockdown are incredible but you have to have the design to handle it of course. My bands lie perfect every time I load it. No bundles, no crossing. I haven't had a gun with more than 2 bands have bands lay like the albacore. You do have to trim the band ends and streamline them but I have always done that anyways. Or use a metal spreader wishbone like Majd.

The Bleutec is 130 band stretch, the Albacore is about 143. not sure how they compare overall but it's something to consider depending on what you're looking for.

I don't know what your problem is mate but I'm not a speargun builder/ manufacturer like yourself. I have done a bit of testing in a mates pool but mostly use a target I bring in my gear bag, and get familiar with a new gun for a good 10-15 minutes before I start targeting fish. I don't need to film any static testing as I am not trying to sell a product. I just make adjustments as I see fit. I was giving you a suggestion... another suggestion for you, try not to be as aggressive on a spearfishing forum when you are representing a brand. That might deter potential customers.
You mentioned a while back that you could build a gun that passes the tuna test at 30 feet? I don't think this would penetrate 15cm of hard construction styroboard at that distance.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wFUMqjtu7tc

If I were you, I'd buy peterislame a case or three of beer. He has done some great videos for you. Pool testing takes a lot longer than anticipated.
