Diy camo wetsuit

For all those out there shooting fish on a budget like me! check this out, i did my first DIY camo wetsuit paint job on some old wetsuits i had laying around and it turned out pretty epic...i think. I used Acrylic fabric paint and some sponges to apply it and if you have an awesome chick you can get her to do it

Re: Diy camo wetsuit

I used the acrylic pair sold at Walmart in the 2oz bottles. So far it has held up well and I've heard it'll last at least 6months to a year. Took about 1 hr to dry

Re: Diy camo wetsuit

Make sure to update the post with a report on longevity. That's the part I'm curious about.

Re: Diy camo wetsuit

Reminds me of Riffes cryptic camo.

Re: Diy camo wetsuit

How much more stiff did your wetsuit get if any? I tested it on some old gloves once and it made them pretty stiff.

Re: Diy camo wetsuit

I'm going to try that on my cheapo suit I got off ebay. From what I know about paint, the dryer your sponge is, the less you'll compromise on flexibility. Think screenprinting, or stippling, rather than brushing on.

Looks great!

Re: Diy camo wetsuit

so its been about a year since i painted that suit... in that year ive been on 3 live abords and total done about 64 dives. The suit has held up way better than expected. It has a little bit of fading (understandably) but the camo is still noticable. Probably going to do a quick touch up and it will be just as good as the first day. Over all the cheapest and best camo wetsuit ive ever had. Way easier to take on and off and way cheaper!

Re: Diy camo wetsuit

I have a suit with the same sort of acrylic paint job that has held up very well. Go for it!

Re: Diy camo wetsuit

Awesome, man! I'm very tempted to try the sponge-paint method on my wetsuit. How many dives before you noticed the fading?
