Re: How often do you carry a knife while spearfishing?
Gatku sells a nice low profile knife for cheap ($17) that will not make you sad when you loose another knife.
I wear a knife on my inner calf. Without it, I feel naked. . Keep it sharp! A dull knife though really good for making a solid PB and J sandwich is not so good in an emergency, cutting kelp or defending against your crazed homicidal dive buddy. JK Use a bungee loop attached to the knives handle hole and stretch around sheath tip to keep knife from falling out when not being used and have loop around wrist when using knife. Works great. I always carry mine in my teeth. Kickin' it old school like Tarzan. There's a reason he carried it that way.

Carry the knife "prison style"... You'll never lose it!
Unless you cough and squat.

I carry a small rife on my forarm for safety and stoning. I've been considering sewing the sheith into the wetsuit somewhere near the breastplate (not where I load my gun though) so I can access it with either hand.

Re: How often do you carry a knife while spearfishing?
Golden knife rule of spearfishing... '1 up top & 1 down below'
I hear the criticism's of stating the obvious here but a forum like this should definitely keep discussing these kind of critical subjects over and over again... its good for everyone... why not? So thanks to OP & all here for your contributions... some great suggestions and ideas... good read. I'm a big fan of this one up top... great scabbard and the perfect 'Bishop' (dispatch). And this one down below... Kit (knife) maintenance should never be viewed negatively... besides its clearly a kit based pastime so if you don't 'love' your precious kit no one else will... keep those knives oiled and sharp spearo's. Having recently got caught up in a very unusual kind of coated wire very briefly in poor vis only a few days ago I certainly appreciate some of the suggestions regarding wire cutters here too... I will indeed be carrying something on my belt which can cut wire from now on... why the f'ck not? |

Artiz, I like your set up. What's the bottom one? Hard to see on my phone screen. I like that it has a serrated side, that's gotta be way better for the kelp and for mono/lighter wire.

Re: How often do you carry a knife while spearfishing?
...I never attach anything to me (except a knife) that can get hung up....rather than a tether to my knife, I keep a package of rubber bands in my gear and use two to secure my knife in the sheath, yet, still allow stretch for pulling it out quickly...I use the same rubber bands to wrap a sinker onto fishing line for a fast drop onto tuna holding at 100'....my bait is in the zone before most guys get their bait below the surface..
...I have learned a few things from this poll ( am checking out the Fury knife) and it is an invaluable safety reminder for new divers on Spearboard.....so there, all you wanna be critics...... ...one final thought.....in the event of a serious injury, a knife handle can be used to twist a rubber sling into a quick tournaquet to stop blood flow...a knife just might save a fellow divers' life when quick action is required... Re: How often do you carry a knife while spearfishing?
I guess you've have relegated yourself to cllckbait. I guess that's all you have going for you now. Sad. Especially when you are responding to something I said several years ago. The only reason I can figure is that you're butt hurt because Bernie, your socialist god, didn't win. Maybe you should direct your butthurt anger towards the ones that prevented it...the DNC instead of me you shallow silly man.
You don't know my history of diving or anything. All you do is lash out at anyone that opposes you politically. The fact is that I've about my back issues whipped and am about to get back into diving. From what I've seen of your posting, I've much more experience than you have ever had. Why don't you STFU and post some actual pics of yourself w/ pics instead of calling people out that you don't know anything about. It would be much more productive than typing BS about people you hardly no nothing about. What? Do you miss your BFF, Billy, so you think you need to take up his worthless commentary? Well, you are certainly doing him a disservice w/ your banal rhetoric. We've been thru this before and agreed upon not addressing one another. It seems you can't help yourself though. Why is that? BTW, my apologies for thinking you voted for Bernie. Why don't you confirm it? Who exactly did you vote for? I'm probably wrong. Crooked ass pedophilia loving Hillary was probably your choice. BTW, you're definitely in the wrong section to be spewing your political vomit. PS. Yes, Jetro. I'm a quite proficient diver. Prior to my back injury, I dove on many commercial dive trips and have competed in many tournaments. I thought you've been around the board long enough not to ask such a silly question. Don't you dive w/'The Rock'? Ask him if you're that interested.
