Question What fins are good?

Ok. Just so I don't get yelled at. Yes, I did search around SB for this thread and I didn't find much, but I did try. But my question is for around 100$ what fins should I get? I go off the beach, so I would be doing a lot of surface swimming. Any suggestions would be great. Thanks a lot.

Re: What fins are good?

Way to watch your back there John. I scuba dive with Cressi Garas and I like them. I know you don't care because I am just a Scuba Diver!!!

I've never used them, but it looks like a good deal if you can get them to fit

Re: What fins are good?

I love my Riffe fin. They are perfect for surface swimming, and I take them off the beach all the time. The are pretty tough.

Re: What fins are good?

K, Thanks I have a size 9 foot and I want to wear fin socks. What size should I get or would it be more beneficial to go to my local dive shop and try some on?

If you go to you LDS please don't waste there time and effort to fit you then go buy them online. That would just be rude and very uncool.

Re: What fins are good?

I wear a size nine shoe also. I bought the Cressi Gara 3000LD because it's a soft fin and good for surface swimming, (and because I'm a beginning freediver). If there'd been a shop in my area, I would have tried them on and bought them at the shop. Since there isn't, I bought online and ordered the 8-9. With a 3mm sock, they're just a bit snug. I would probably have been better off with the 10-11. That way I could have used a 5mm sock, which is more practical here in norcal. As far as the fins, I'm really happy with them. I did a mile surface swim the other day just for fun, and felt like I could really cruise with those fins as compared to doing the same swim with the scuba fins.

Re: What fins are good?

It's worth it to start with the best allways, any sport or hobby and believe me I have been trough almost all of them...Thats why I had cheap rifles laying around, cheap masks, fins, spearguns, bowling balls, Motorcycle equipment, boots, skis, golf clubs by the hundreds, even cheap girlfriends. not anymore I got rid of everything and lost money doing it, so now I allways start with the best, you are going to love freediving and spearfishing believe me, get the best you can, save money and you wont regret it...I started with cheap sporasubs, they were ok, now I bought Rekord 3, believe me they are worth it, much better...Get some Bats at least or milleniums, and I have heard good things about the creesis too.

There's an online place/LDS in Irvine thats got good prices on longfins, and they have a 150% pricematch guarantee. scuba.com is the store. They have the picassos there and I saw them for a cheaper price at a different place so I told them about the other place and they are currently verifying the cheaper price. I should have them by early next week.

Service is pretty good too. I bought some sporasub variant longfins from them a few months back but this past bug opener, the foot pocket started deconstructing itself. They took it back no questions asked and got started on the crediting me and getting a pair of black teams into the warehouse.

Re: What fins are good?

I really like the omer foot pockets with the new runner blades in them. They fit real nice and give me great and very smooth power for getting down in the depths. I cant think of any negatives of them, I love em.

another guy reviews them here:
http://forums.deeperblue.net/showthread.php?p=612335

I got mine at spearfishinggear.com in the black freediving package. I called the order in and had the guy put in the runner blades instead of the millenium standard blades. Or you could buy the fins alone without the package, but the package is a dam good deal.

Look here:

Omer Millenium Runner Fins

Black Freediving Package

Btw, I am not paid by these guys, not related to, and dont know them; I just really like their prices and service. I had a problem with a omer flat hunt knife and they gave me an advance exchange on a new one. Nobody does that these days...

Re: What fins are good?

Florida Freedivers has both the Cressi 2000HF and 3000LD fins on sale for $99.00. These fins are both great - the 2000's being stiffer than the 3000's. The footpockets are very comfortable too. You can't go wrong with Cressi's.
