Those are some toad kingies, I dove with the Newcastle Neptunes down under, Dallas and the bunch, and saw some of those while severely under rigged in 10 feet of bubblers.
Great job!

Beautiful fish, how big?

Are those the same species we get around here? They look identical but I can't imagine them intermingling & wonder how closely related they are.

Re: Spearing on the west coast of Oz

I believe that the Yellowtails are the same species that you guys get, they get to about 85 to 90lbs here, but I'm still looking for my big one!

My Son Lee holds the West Australian Record for Yellowtail Kingies at 76lbs.

We do get some good size Spanish Mackerel and Wahoo on the West Coast, see pics below.

Sometimes sharks can be a problem, but usually after chewing up a few Mackerel they sit back a bit.

The Tiger Shark below was speared to stop a nasty accident at a time when trying to retrieve a large Mackerel in bloody water.

Still waiting for your big one? You make me feel so inadequate...
Thanks for the pics and info. I need to make it down to your neck of the woods one of these days!

Barry - You're slinging legendary photos like panties at a motley crue concert! If only I could grow a beard and lived in Oz...

Where are you guys in relation to Margarets River or Yallingup?

Re: Spearing on the west coast of Oz

We are based in Perth, 160 miles north of Margrets, but we spear from Augusta (200 miles South) to Exmouth (800 miles North).
Over the years, we have had many overseas visitors and in most cases have been able to get them onto some good fish. Fairly restricted bag limit over here now but there are a lot of great fishing spots and large fish. So if you are headed this way make sure your gun is packed!

Oh and here is a sample from the Augusta area, WA Jewfish, probably our best eating fish!
