Re: The Collapse of the Gulf of Mexico Grouper Fishery

Looks like they are taking action to keep the red grouper stock healthier.

Recreational harvest of red grouper in federal waters of the Gulf of Mexico (Gulf) will close at 12:01 am, local...

Re: The Collapse of the Gulf of Mexico Grouper Fishery

Plenty of keeper red grouper up this way. The most I've seen over the last 20 years.

Re: The Collapse of the Gulf of Mexico Grouper Fishery

Apparently so. Based on what we have seen in the northeastern gulf, this reaction is about 5 years late. The gag population bottomed out about 2016/2017 up here and has been making a steady...

Re: The Collapse of the Gulf of Mexico Grouper Fishery

This makes perfect sense. 540,000 pounds of dead fish per day times assume 60 good days of fishing = 32,400,000 pounds of grouper that the rec fishery is killing per year just in a small section of...

Re: Team HeadHunter

Great video. Its evidence that the gag grouper population is making a comeback. We have definitely noticed an increase in gags in the northern gulf over the past two to three seasons. I'm hoping...

Re: Epic day out of Panama City

Awesome day of diving, for sure!
Curious what type of structure the gags came from? Ledges vs live bottom vs wrecks.

Re: Best boat for diving? Please chime in!

I really like my Glacier Bay 260, which they renamed a GB2665 in the later years. It's a really big 26' boat.
You can find a hull from early 2000's that has been repowered and be in the 40 to 50K...

Re: Any Shooters in Tally/Crawfordville area?

The freediving does make the shark issue much more manageable. Getting the fish out of the water quickly makes a big difference.
I'm not sure if this shark problem is a natural fluctuation upward...

Re: Glock-Fishing (underwater)

Thanks for posting.
I hope they develop this into something that could be used for protection against sharks. We were hook and lining off of Carrabelle Tuesday and it was like a sharknado out...

Re: Anybody been to the MG recently?

The quantity of sharks out there is making spearfishing much less fun than it used to be. Am I the only one thinking this?

Re: Sign the petition to extend ARS in SWFL!

Kind of an out of the box, creative idea. But the Feds are not going to give your area more Red Snapper allocation because you plan to kill lionfish too.

Re: Vis out of Carrabelle

Went out on Wednesday and had 20 to 30 feet of viz in 60 to 70 fsw. Not bad for our area! Shot some decent hogs, mangroves, and cobias. Saw mucho gag grouper. There are some quality fish out...

Wondered how you east coast guys usually handle drift diving from a safety perspective: meaning how do you stay near your divers and not lose someone if the seas get up some. Do you have someone...
