I simply put a 3 foot nylon line through the hole, sometimes with abrasive paste, and I go back and fort many many many times. It will be smoothed out within 5 minutes.

I might break the string 3...

Yeah, I heard of faster glues used by manufacturers. They are useful if you have a production to maintain but the quality is probably not the first preoccupation lol. At least one of the high end...

Well, it was an old design used on crossbows in europe since before the romans... and the chinese had this 3 part design before, and it didn't require springs! This one is from 6th century.

I sailed to the bahamas years ago... I found that the fish population increases as you get away from inhabitants... also, if you find a deep area, even less people will have visited.

So, I shot this guy at 75 feet... It took about 150 feet of reel line. In a perfect world, I would have a real reel... one that can take the line back and help us fight the fish and reduce the risk...
