Re: Palos Verdes Dive Conditions 10-30-2021

I dove my favorite PV cove on Saturday. Viz at the bottom was surprisingly good at 15-25 feet viz. Limited on scallops, 2 bugs (one 3.5lb) were a lot of work and time, and hammered a smallish 27 inch...

Re: Lost at Anacapa

How did he lose it? Did it fall off a boat, or did he shoot a black sea bass, try to hold on, and ditch his belt at depth to make surface before blacking out? How does one lose a belt and pole spear...

Re: Sharpening Speartips

Cavemen were stupid by today's standards yet highly resilient. They didn't become extinct either, they evolved.
The OP posed a stupid question by today's internet standards, and resilience didn't...

Re: Sharpening Speartips

Still a dumb question. Cavemen figured out how to sharpen spear tips.

Re: Sharpening Speartips

Not at all. The question was akin to asking how to sharpen a filet knife. I am certain the OP very well knows it's a single internet search away and the answer to his question would have been...

Re: Sharpening Speartips

Stupid question and yes it's not rocket science. It's hardly even science. I can't believe you couldn't figure that out on your own. Anything that grinds metal will be just fine but like all forum...

Re: Cedros island contacts

I went with 2 people a few weeks ago. Some of the local fishermen in Euginia will let you pay to play, just ask them, YRMV. $150 cash each got us a full day ride out and back in a panga. Shot YT at...

Re: Malibu Conditions Permathread

I will readily admit that I take a Summer bug 1-2 times per year. It puts no scar on the population in comparison to the density of commercial traps and if I get a ticket it is my own to deal with....

Re: Malibu Conditions Permathread

Dove this morning outside the surf line North of Dume. Outside, viz was a variable 10-25 foot, lots of life in the eel grass on the way out. Immediately pegged, gutted and strung a 6lb YT in 30' of...

Re: Lobster tastes terrible!

I don't necessarily agree with everything here.
Non fish -
- Veal is sweeter than beef. Beef is tougher and not as lean (gristle, not delicious marbling). I suppose it's a matter of taste on this...

Re: Lobster tastes terrible!

No offense, maybe it's the lighting, but the one on the left looks like lobster stewing in watery baby diarrhea, and the one on the right looks like it was possibly at one time a good pasta dish.......

Re: Long Lost Chumash Island

Tomols (no "a"). If you read Spanish exploration history in California, there are many first-hand logs about them. There were no secret lost islands or reefs. They made Tomols, paddles, and paddled...

Re: Malibu Conditions Permathread

The mini wreck structure area was holding fatties this weekend. I dove Friday and it was so good decided to stay and do a night dive on Saturday instead of heading home. The 2 of us limited both days...

Re: "T" is for Tuna,Terns, Turtles and Tiger....

We went paddy hopping yesterday and I shot a blue dorado! The only yellow markings were spotty and not very visible on the tail and it went in at just over 27lbs. Possibly the coolest looking fish...

Re: Ford stations wagon with license plate 7DBF564?

PV is notorious for local harassment, and also notorious for their local cops doing jack s%$# when someone calls them about getting harassed by locals.

Re: Malibu Conditions Permathread

On my way home from the bay area I camped at Leo Carillo. I dove in front of the houses at County Line. Shot 2 halibut, one went 26 inches and the other was fat and 43 inches. They are in thick...

Re: Should we leave the "Trophies" alone?

I'm sorry if I don't have photographs immediately available. As I mentioned they are all old and my father has them. He's 76 and lives in Hawaii so I would need to have him send them to me and scan...

Re: Should we leave the "Trophies" alone?

Photographs? I spearfish to eat and I am not technically savvy when it comes to cameras and the new digital devices. I will need to find photographs from my father and scan them in at Kinko's, but...

Thumbs up Re: Should we leave the "Trophies" alone?

I didn't knock anyone for shooting big fish, I was noting my personal preference, and I don't eat WSB sashimi, I think it's as palatable "for me", as raw halibut. Some of those "exceptions" (big...

Re: The best lobster glove ever made.

The HECS meter test on the website reminds me of that time I got suckered into the hand E-Meter stress test at the Scientology booth.

Re: Should we leave the "Trophies" alone?

I don't care to take giant fish or break records, posing with giant WSB or WR in one hand while gripping my full chubwood in the other for an internet or magazine pic and attention purposes, unless...

Re: White Sea Bass Techniques

Farting underwater sounds exactly like croaking and attracts the big females. Don't tell anyone this secret.
