Re: Ermes Avatar speargun handle

Can we discuss the Avatar muzzle? Looks like a very well designed muzzle with the band elevators. I'd really like to see how the bands look loaded if anyone has a pic.Click image for larger version

Similar styling to the handle with those angles, has the same options for either a 26 mm or 26.5 mm ID barrel tube depending on the "O" ring seat selected. The main thing is you don't want the line wrap prongs to snap off.

Re: Ermes Avatar speargun handle

still havent got my hands on mine yet, the global-supply-chain blues ;(

Anyone put the handle + muzzle + carbon pipe combo in the pool yet? Agree with Majd, 7.5mm shaft can be enough for bigger fish clear water if the handle is rigid and grippy enough [without extensive mods] to handle hot 14.5mm bands.

easy to improve grip by sprinkling some grit on that thumb rest, tho even epoxy might not stick to the moulded silicon on the handle

Elevating the bands keeps shaft flying straight and reduces the dreaded back lift that the wishbones can impart on the tail of the shaft ... which can destabilize a shaft. This gives much better retained velocity and much better accuracy ... even if you push the power. It is very tricky as you also want some downward thrust to keep shaft on the track ... but the more powerful band should be higher and thus you get some downward vectoring but at the end of the band contraction the more powerful band guides the shaft. It is pretty interesting that minute changes to the muzzle have a huge impact on where the shaft impacts on target.

I would remove any prongs that are not needed ... usually one side is not needed. I would then reduce and sand off the remaining prong to where it just barely holds the shooting line. You don't need a big prong to hold line over shaft if it is under tension. For some reason the smaller prongs had a lot of complaints of line coming off easily ... but most likely that is because a reel was used with no bungee tension. I don't use reels so for me things might be different ... and thus a longer prong might be better for those with reels and might have looser line over shaft connection.

In addition to the red, white and green there is now a model with the colored parts of the grip handle in blue. A carbon fibre stock is also available with a wide bulged section towards the rear as speculated on earlier.

You can use up to 8 mm without any problem.

thanks Marco. yep, realise 8mm fits fine, curious as to how much that design soaks up recoil from heavier shaft, whether squirrel grip required or not

Re: Ermes Avatar speargun handle

I wonder who is making the “Avatar” carbon barrels, i.e. the sub-contractor, as such components are usually sourced from specialist manufacturers working in the material.

Pete do you happen to have a link to the barrel. I tried searching yesterday on their site and could not find them.
