Anclote 8/1

Headed out on the Reel Rehab with Dave, Alyssa, and Dave Brown. Little breezy in the morning but laid out by the afternoon. Stayed shallow with the deepest spots in 35ft. Limit of gags, some nice hogfish, and a few mangos. Vis was 25-30ft by mid day and deteriorated with the tide change

Re: Anclote 8/1

175 views...and NO COMMENTS!? REALLY?
Well, here is mine;
35ft!!!! WoW! What a Haul...Are you sure it wasn't 135ft?????
I can hardly ever find fish in anything less then 65ft...and usually we have to go deeper for decent targets....( outta Boca Pass)
I MUST be diving in the wrong part of the ocean!
I had to look on a map to see where Anclote was...
CONGRATS...NICE HAUL!

Dang it Adam! I was trying to keep a low profile. That's why I was hiding behind the gag! LOL!! Fun to get to meet and dive with you.

David and Alyssa did a great job as always. Got to try a little free-diving again. DKay got those two 19" Hogs free-diving, so pretty impressive since viz was not pristine and there was some current.

Oh, I'm all ears, how do you "work it"?
I hit non-public spots of hard bottom, ledges, swiss cheeze....cant shoot what aint there....
But I am quite a bit south of you too....

The area down South is likely still in the recovery phase from the significant Red Tide I would expect. So just postulating that's why it remains necessary to go out deeper.

Re: Anclote 8/1

SEATUX: We generally look for bait shows in the summer. Those gags will sit on any structure even if its only a 1 foot ledge if there is bait. Also we focus on small undercuts and cracks in the ledges. You would be amazed how these big gags can wedge themselves in tight. Also we try to descend very slowly as a group and suspend off the bottom for a bit. Most of your chances at fish is on the initial drop.

Yes indeed. Bait equals gags. I just said the same thing a moment ago in the viz thread. Great work guys.

It seems just like last year the gags are holding in skinny water, lets hope the viz holds up.

Very few boats out yesterday, they missed a good opportunity to get in the water.

Re: Anclote 8/1

The other key to working the shallow stuff in the summer is bounce diving. It should only take a few minutes to know if a spot holds fish. If it doesn’t, then save your time and air and move to the next spot. Eventually you should find them. We may hit 6-8 spots or more in a day if needed.

Re: Anclote 8/1

One diver per spot... hit and go to the next quickly. This increased production and gives roaming bulls less time to zone in on you.
