Spearfishing spots in Cabo San Lucas, MX

Hi I found couple of threads about spearfishing in Cabo but most of them just say, you should better go to La Paz or that local pangas wont allow you to bring speargun on the trip etc.

I am going to Cabo in 3 weeks and I would like to do some shore dives. I will have the car so can travel between Cabo and San Jose. I dont want to drive 2 hours to La Paz though :-) I am looking for location/dive spots advice.

I will appreciate any tips!

I was in Cabo 2 years ago and did some decent shore dives/spearfishing in Santa Maria and Las Viudas beaches. I was not 100% sure if it is legal there :-) I know that the Chileno Bay has "no speargun" signs and I fully respect that, but I noticed that there is a small secluded beach on the very right (south) side of Chileno bay, where nobody goes and probably does not belong to Chileno beaches protected area? Anybody has any experience with that?

I heard that there is some decent beach access on Palmilla beach, but have not tried it. Any experience?

I saw some spearfishing videos on youtube that look like they were shot on that inlet beach at the end of San Jose Marina/port - next to the stone wall protecting the marina where locals go to swim. Anybody tried that?

Again, I will appreciate all your comments and sharing your experience.

Thanks

The port you refer to is the Marina @ San jose del Cabo and its a great spot, they dont allow you to swim/dive on the inside, so you do it from the outside where the action is and you can def find at least some good Pargos.

Chileno is closed and there are other spots around so dont bother on that little area. Google maps is your best friend to find rocks and cliffs. If you want to go BWH let me know i am trying to put together a trip for those dates near cabo or you can drive to Sargento to go to Cerralvo (the 2 hr drive is worth it)

Hi Polespearo, thank you for your reply. I actually do polespearing as well and did it 2 years ago in Cabo area with good results. I like it. But I recently bought a mako speargun so I am looking forward to test it.

I will try the Marina spot and some spots on the road from Cabo to San Jose. I am going with my wife and little kid, so no big trips far from Cabo area.

We are just planning to go to Cabo Pulmo for two days (I know its a marine reserve so no spears :-(

What does it mean BWH?

Thanks

Re: Spearfishing spots in Cabo San Lucas, MX

Oh I see, thanks for explanation. I am planning to take a panga with my brother from San Jose Marina (Gordo Banks Pangas) for rod&reel fishing. I am not sure if they would allow us to bring our guns, but we dont have good equipment for BWH anyway :-(

Do you know where can I buy fishing license in Cabo or San Jose? I tried to buy it online, I even registered on the http://www2.ebajacalifornia.gob.mx/Pesca/

But I can not buy the permit as the button "Process Permit" does not appear. So I am afraid I will have to buy it when I am there.

You can go to the San José marina early in the morning, 6-8 am, to buy a license . They are gone by 9 because most boats are out fishing and no more licenses to sell for the day.

Re: Spearfishing spots in Cabo San Lucas, MX

I will be down there with my brother staying at the pueblo bonito rose on Oct 1-4 and then my GF is meeting us 4-10. We are bringing down our 115cm guns to do either some shore dives or some charters if their are any good companies that will take you out. We were thinking of renting a panga but it would be nice to get a spearo company that has some bigger guns that we could use. Any tips?
