Video: Palm Beach Freedivers Tournament

The PB Freedivers club held a tournament out of Jupiter, Florida today. We had exceptional conditions, with 60 ft visibility, near zero current and warm water!

Yury won the tournament, Muay Thai (Scott) took second and I got third place.

Scott and I dove together all day. All video was taken with a Go-Pro mounted on a gun mount using the MAKO flat lens.

My son put the video together.

Nice video. Thanks for sharing. Nice shot at that gag. How does the points work in a tourney like that?

Thanks, it is pretty incredible to look at some of the earlier videos which were shot with the same camera, but without the flat lens...they look like crap in comparison.

We have a wide selection of eligible fish. You can weigh in one species from up to 10 categories. One point per pound plus one point per fish, with maximum points available per species category of 21 points, I think...So a cuda is worth the same as a grouper... I couldn't buy a 'cuda yesterday!

I believe it was formulated to be similar to how the scoring is done in the Nationals.

We are having our annual pole spear/sling tournament out of Palm Beach in two weeks I think, it is. (For that one, we allow spadefish).

Our club now has around 40 members and we picked up 3 new members on Saturday.

Geeks, Greeks and Freaks are welcome to join.

Re: Video: Palm Beach Freedivers Tournament

Thanks for the info

Would love to do a tourney one day but weekends are tough especially now with all the football games. I own a sports bar restaurant.

Congrats to Yury

Re: Video: Palm Beach Freedivers Tournament

Thanks for posting the video Jim. Thanks to all who participated and a big contratulations to the winners

First Place went to Yury Bylina
Second Place was Scott Turgeon
Third Place went to cinematographer and club secretary/treasurer - Jim Fyfe

We had some great conditions with good vis, warm water and almost no current and we made it back just as the seas were kicking up. Some good stringers came in and we all made it back safely - couldn't ask for a better day.

Re: Video: Palm Beach Freedivers Tournament

Cool video Jim. Thanks for having me PB Free, it was a lot of fun with a great group of guys! Congrats to Yury!!! I had the numbers (filled 7 specie categories), just not the weight. Yury put me away with his 20.5 lb gag. No shame in losing to last year's National Vice-Champion though!!!!

On the way out got to meet (or least wave at) IslandFever & reef roamer, that was cool too!
