Salmon??
Hopefully I am posting in the right section... Anyways, does anyone know what the regulations are for shooting salmon in the Monterey bay area? I can see a TON of boats just off of the shore line, I am 99% sure they are going for Salmon... but IDK what the regulations are for spearing them when they are in open waters... Any info would be appreciated.

Re: Salmon??
Yes, salmon is illegal to spear (in California & probably most places)... Probably an old, holdover law from back in the days when people would spear spawning steelhead & salmon in river/creek mouths. Same reason it's illegal to have a spear within 500' of a creek mouth in CA.
In any case, the boats you are seeing around MRY/SC are catching salmon at 80-150' down in open water with crappy viz.. it would be quite a challenge to spear one even if it were legal. |
