punta mita in february-need advice

I'm looking to take my chick to punta mita in mid february.

This will be my first trip there, although I have been to PV a bunch of times.
This trip will be a combo surf/hang out with chick/do some freediving and maybe a little spearing

I would appreciate an recommendation on chick friendly place to stay, preferably easy walking distance to surfing and shoredive, as well as any other places to check out on foot or by boat.

Not sure what the surf/dive situation is like in February or if I am better off up near sayulita.

We will also probably rent a panga a couple days for snorkling/surf

Also, if someone has a better recommendation in Mex besides punta mita I'm open to that too. I haven't bought the plane tickets yet.

I have heard some mixed reviews about troncones

Thanks

Re: punta mita in february-need advice

It was a great trip, but ended up being just a surf trip with no diving. Next time I go, I'll bring a gun or polespear. The reef structure all around the point looked great. I ran into a guy with longfins and he had been out with the local spearfishing charter offshore and had shot a nice wahoo.

Awesome. I'm headed there with family next week. Sounds like I'm brining some gear.

Is there a charter that's recommended over others?
Did you see any shore dive spots where the structure, viz or fish seemed better?

Thanks so much!

you CAN shore dive punta mita.... you just have to shell out the clams to stay at the Four Seasons resort there- the golf course runs right up to the top of the point- fun surf spot if the swell is getting in there too- my wife and I caught it head high. There is at least one nice rental house down the point a bit in front of another surf spot that could be good shore diving- the spot is call Los Burros or something like that.

Spearmex.com is right in town, so you can walk over and talk to them about a charter. That might be best if you want to go offshore. If you just want to rent a ride and dive the point, there is a mini marina in town where you can rent a panga by the hour. The vis and structure looked pretty good around el faro and the cove. You can walk to el faro if you want. It took me about 25 minutes to walk there from town with my surfboard, which I did a few mornings.

Re: punta mita in february-need advice

I booked two 1-day charter with Spearmex in June. Looking forward to it.

They supply you with all the gear, including a riffe gun and float. Anyone tried their gear before? Trying to figure out if I should bring my own.
