Talking Moving (back) to San Diego

Hey guys, I'm in law school but Im going to be working in San Diego this summer. Im originally from the UTC area, so it'll be nice to be home. I mostly dive on the east coast with a 90 cm railgun. The perfect size to take down striped bass, tautog, black sea bass, triggerfish etc.

SO, bringing me to my question: will a 110 cm railgun be sufficient for shore diving? Ive never caught a WSB or YT, but Id like to change that. I'll probably be taking the kayak out of la jolla.

I have 110 cm that im hoping will serve me well. seems like a lot of guys are going 130+, but that seems like overkill for shore diving, especially if you see something smaller where you want to shoot into the rocks. Ive never really used a gun over 120, and I wasnt really a fan... but then again, East Coast viz.

Also The reel on THAT 110 cm gun only takes 30 meters, should that make me nervous?

thanks in advance guys!

You'll be fine. Me personally I usually bring two guns out when I take my yak out, a 53" 3 bander and a 50-60cm hole gun.

I can't speak much to your question re: gun length and reel size since I've only put in down south a handful of times, but last summer in La Jolla my 110 felt like the perfect size. To be fair the viz was garbage every time I went out, but since I wasn't running off shore I felt like the 110 gave me all the flexibility I needed. I could be wrong, but I don't think many guys go over 120cm in the kelp (with the exception of the occasional 130) unless they're shooting mids.

Where are you in law school? And where are you working this summer? I'm graduating this month and my law school dive buddy is starting at a firm down there in the fall.

so then do you think I should upgrade to a 130 and get rid of the 110? or just stick with the 110?
