Prescription Lenses

Hey guys I've been looking at getting contacts for when I go diving. My vision isn't that bad Its just a little blurry at far distances. But before I decide to buy contacts (I'll only wear them for diving) I was wondering if prescription lenses for my mask were a good option. I use a riffe nekton mask with the amber lenses currently.

Re: Prescription Lenses

I use prescription masks - I have three of them - don't know if you can get RX lenses for that particular mask, though. You may have to get another mask. My most recent purchase was a TUSA RX mask and I really like it - about $85

Re: Prescription Lenses

I use both. I started with contacts but wearing them makes it harder to read with my old eyes. Think lat/Lon and any numbers on my phone. I paid about $150 for a prescription mask. It's. Not as comfortable as my other mask. Using the script mask I can wear my prescription shades And see my numbers. I think it's a personal choice

Re: Prescription Lenses

I just got prescription lenses put in my son's Omer Alien mask. He loves it, and says the difference is amazing.

Re: Prescription Lenses

I don't need it done, but I'm curious how one gets prescription lenses in a name-brand freediving mask. Do you take it to a technician or send it away in the mail? Is a magnifying lens adhered to the inside of the stock lens?

Prescription Lenses

Contacts are the way to go. I dive off my kayak, and need to be able to see when I have my mask off. My eyes are pretty bad though!

Cressi has made a relatively low volume mask with interchangeable lenses for a while, called the Focus. You can change the lenses yourself if you're moderately handy.

Re: Prescription Lenses

I think I'll try contacts first and see how it goes. I love my mask and I'm not really ready to switch it out. If I were to get lenses anyone know how I would go about that?

Re: Prescription Lenses

1800 contacts, assuming you have a current prescription. Costco does exams for around $75 if you don't.
