CA Spearfishing Report safe harbor--please read
This forum is about "Talk here about spearfishing on California's Pacific Coast, and post those reports and photos!"
For better or worse, that's what this sub-forum is all about. You may disagree with spearfishing/report postings philosophically, but SB management created this subforum for that purpose. We want to create a welcoming, safe forum for people to do so. There are other forums on SB to vent your philosophical disagreement ("offtopic" being one) or you may use PMs to discuss your philosophical disagreement with the poster if you don't like what s/he posts. But publicly bashing people for posting their legal catch in reports and photos makes zero sense when you click onto this forum--as management advises clearly that this forum is for "post those reports and photos." Bashing legal spearing report posts on this forum makes about as much sense as getting on a swimming forum and bashing people for swimming or getting on a car repair forum and bashing people for fixing cars. AND IT MAKES TOO MUCH WORK FOR MODS AND IT DRIVES LAW-ABIDING, DECENT DIVERS AWAY FROM SB. THIS NEEDS TO STOP. So....until further notice, spearing reports that comply with F&G regulations are granted safe harbor on this forum. Bashers will be warned the first time via PM. Subsequent times will earn infraction points--leading to suspension or banning. Let me state again. This forum is, again, "Talk here about spearfishing on California's Pacific Coast, and post those reports and photos!" As long as a poster complies with F&G laws, those posts will be granted safe harbor and bashers will be warned and given infraction points. Too many people lord over others with their wacky personal "ethics." From bent fish, to surface shooting fish, to no-SUP, to whatever they dream up--they are entitled to practice whatever they deem to be their own personal ethics. But don't cram it down others' throat. If the catch is legal, their reports/photos are welcomed on this subforum. Go to the "offtopic" if you want to proselytize your personal belief. In brief, if you log in to this subforum, prepare to read people "Talk here about spearfishing on California's Pacific Coast, and post those reports and photos!" If the catch is legal, bashing will be unwelcomed on future reports/photos threads on this subforum. Keep it positive. By the same token, please refrain from disclosing the exact location of your take. You may be fine with it. Others may be fine with it. Please keep in mind spearboarders also have to share spots with locals who may resent having dozens of divers from everywhere descending on their backyard dive spot on the basis of some internet report. If you need to give a location, please limit to county-wide information such as "San Diego County, Orange County, LA County, Ventura County, Monterey County, Santa Cruz County, Sonoma County, etc.) Last edited by zenspearo; 06-27-2013 at 04:30 PM. |
