Conned at the Mexican Border

While going through customs in Cabo I was told that I couldn't bring my DRONE in without paying taxes. I told them it was 10 years old, but because I didn't have a "RECIEPT " proving that they charged me tax on a looked up NEW price from the internet. $310! I payed so I could continue in to board my liveaboard trip. The officials on the boat told me the TAX was a violation of Mexican and INTERNATIONAL law, and they would report it to their lawyers in my favor! Anyone ever experience this?

Re: Conned at the Mexican Border

I was charged for my small outboard engine when bringing it across the border (19% tax). I was able to convince them that the price was half of what it really was.

If there is something that they could tax you on, you can make up a receipt for those items ahead of time.

Generators, engines, drones, and other electronics they can try and tax you on

Yeah, if you fly in you're a target. A professional cameraman had to pay "temporary import" on all his gear. It's pure corruption. He dealt it from 8000$ to 400$.

Re: Conned at the Mexican Border

I appealed the charge with my bank and got my money back!
