Re: Alcova report?

The report is you stay away from my honey hole!

(headed up tonight to try and grab a camp spot) Anyone that wants to join is welcome. Bribes in cash, fish locations, and whiskey are always considered for boat rides and filleting services.

Any ideas on first, biggest, and most fish prizes?

Re: Alcova report?

So in all seriousness, here is the report:

Glass calm most mornings at Alcova this weekend, windy to really fricking windy in the afternoons.

Vis was poor by Alcova standards, hanging between 3 and 8 feet. Lots of little suspended particles in the water. The carp are still huge there, and we saw lots of big (20 pound-ish) carp.
Water was around 60 degrees, which I discovered is a bit cold for my 3mm wetsuit. The guys in 5mm suits were good though.
The monster walleye we went after eluded us, except for TuryTurbo, aka MerMan. He got into a group of 4 big ones, including one that wrapped his shaft and ended up breaking his mono! He landed a few smaller walleye, but other than them and carp, only a few trout, suckers, and bluegill were spotted.

We ended the day with some crawfish fishin' and caught a pot full for dinner.

Re: Alcova report?

Yeah, I dove at Alcova three times and this time I have spotted numerous panfishes (including bluegill) and I have not seen any bluegills in my first two trips.

Out of curiosity, what fishes eat crawdads? I have seen so many decent sized crawdads hanging on the rock openly during my dives. That lake only have trouts and walleyes. I did some research online. It looks like walleyes only eats baby crawdads but not adult ones. Trouts do not eat them. That leaves me with carps and suckers. Someone said carps do eat them but unusual and carps in there are not that fat if they consume them, I mean, crawdads are everywhere.

Like sticknrelease stated about suspended particles, I am wondering if they are late-season algae blooms, huh?

Re: Alcova report?

Lots of green! Off the points 5 to 6 ft Vis. In the bays 3-4 ft. Beautiful day glass no wind but no fish I'll figure this out someday.

Re: Alcova report?

Good to hear a report regarding Alcova from Stick & Tury!

So, I'm curious Tury,

Which speargun did you use on those mini-bugs?
