Lesson learned

While a 3 prong might penetrate a big fish , doesn't mean it'll hold.... 6 foot jbl polespear turned into a piece of pasta by a massive cubera I tried to stick today swimming off the beach in Hollywood . 15 feet of water.

Re: Lesson learned

The trick to paralyzers is placement and rapid removal/reshooting if the fish doesn't roll.On a polespear I grab the pole immediately to either guide the fish to a stop or pull it out and reshoot. With a speargun,I put another shaft in it.It is tricky and often better to use a break-away if shooting big fish exclusively. It is a cool feeling to shoot a big fish on a polespear

Tony, very good info here and coming from a highly experienced spearfisherman too.

Dang...that stinks! I definitely agree that slip tips are the way to go. I've been using a sea stinger tip for quite some time and really enjoy it. Although headhunter has an amazing tip out now as well!
