Re: Lionfish
It never ceases to amaze me how the lionfish don't even blink even when their partners are being slayed right next to them...
Arround here we have "Scorpaena scrofa" (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scorpaena_scrofa) which are difficult to spot when they lay on the rocks but quite easy to catch. Sometimes we just spear them instead of shooting them and risking ruining the shafts. You can even touch them with the tip of the spear before they run away. But they do run away (sometimes just a couple yards, other times they just go into a hole or something) and lay down again confident on their cammuflage. But the lion fish just DON'T CARE... Mikel |

I guess it has to do with the amount of divers they see. Off the west coast, due to the large amount of bottom area and structure being spread out, they may only see one or two divers a day (if that). On the east coast (Boca to Palm Beach), it is a narrow reef that runs along the coast line, so all the divers are pretty much concentrated in one area and they may see many divers a day. |
