Our friend has passed. Kostadin SEAL

I have terrible news to share. Our friend SEAL drowned while Spearfishing off of Nusa Penida Island in Bali, Indonesia today. SEAL leaves behind too many loved ones, good friends, and admirers of his craft around the world. Kosta was a good friend. We spoke often and at length. When he told me that he had planned to visit Indonesia I helped him plan his trip. I introduced him to my good friend Andre and asked Andre to meet up with Kosta. Andre was with them yesterday in Nusa Penida and had reviewed the dive spots with Kosta and his travelling companions. This morning they went out diving. Kosta went for a deep drop in the currents between Nusa Cenningan and Nusa Penida. According to his buddy he was caught in a downcurrent and could not surface. Until now his body has not been recovered.

We have lost one of the best minds and hands in the craft of Speargun making. We have lost a good person, who was more to many others.

Very Sad to hear. He made amazing guns and seemed like a nice guy in the few words we shared together on this site. Prayers to his family, Thanks for sharing.

Re: Our friend has passed. Kostadin SEAL

Bonjour tous le monde

Martina Angelova (his girlfriend) on Facebook says Seal is not dead

https://www.facebook.com/kostadin.ka...ef=lhc.friends

""Please people and friends of Kosta stop saying good bye because he is alive and he is struggling somewhere out there. It is ridiculous that his two what so called friends left the place on the 3rd day leaving him behind. I don't wish this to happen to any of you but that's the way to loose him for real. A true friend will never leave you behind whatsoever. Kosta is alive and he is somewhere out there waiting on us to rescue him . Please if he had any friends help us to find him instead of thinking he is dead. Don't abandon the chance to get him back as soon as possible. Every minute out there for him is crucial for his life. Please everyone help to find him he is out theeeeeeeeere waiting!!!!!!!"""

Re: Our friend has passed. Kostadin SEAL

RIP Kostadin (if that’s true/confirmed).

I’ve communicated w him on several occasions and he was a solid guy, and extremely knowledgeable in what he did.

Jon, is the passing confirmed ? According to this girlfriend, they are forming a search/rescue mission today and still looking for him. They stated that two of his dive buddies apparently abandoned him, but details are unclear.

Re: Our friend has passed. Kostadin SEAL

I ****ing hope Kosta is alive, hanging out on one of the small islands off Batu Aba, eating coconuts and sashimi and waiting for a boat to pass by. That would be amazing.

I was speaking with Kosta 3 days ago. I was reviewing some of the dive spots and how to dive them. I had asked Andre to meet with Kosta and Andre took the day off and took a boat over for the day to Nusa Lembongan to meet with them and dive with them and show some spots 2 days ago. The next day they went out with their captain. I woke up and saw a message from Andre. I opened it expecting to see some photos of Dogtooth or Wahoo. Instead I received the message from Andre, who unfortunately has more experience than anyone with rescue and recovery of Spearfishing friends at Nusa Penida and in Indonesia.

"Jon, I have very bad news. Kosta died. They went dive yesterday in Ceningan Channel. His friend said Kosta dive deep. He get caught downcurrent. Couldn't return to surface. Until now they no find the body. I just spoke with his friend. Yesterday I was with them. Can't say anything more. So sorry."

I will find out more about exactly what happened. According to the article the Police are still searching the area using Scuba and boats.
