Gun built, 130cm single. advice on barrel, etc

Hey guys, I'm planning on building a "rob allen" like gun, I want a 130cm/51.18" in.

I'm gonna spend the less amount of money possible, then if it works I'll built one with carbon fiber barrel..

I'm gonna buy:

*Hammerhead barrel: OD = 1.12" or 28 mm Wall Thickness = 1.5 mm

http://www.hammerheadwebstore.com/pr...roducts_id=273

*cressi handle from Fl Freedivers

https://www.flfreedivers.com/store/p...46idav91ddlni2

*Cressi reel from Fl Freediver:

https://www.flfreedivers.com/store/p...46idav91ddlni2

*Rob allen Muzzle :

https://www.flfreedivers.com/store/p...46idav91ddlni2

What do you think?? will that rob allen muzzle fit into the hammerhead barrel??? Do you have any other components you recommend? I'm open to any suggestions. It all comes up around $175 .

Thanks for looking.

How about shipping bands shaft and misc hardware? That will put the gun up over $250....

Here's a carbon for you already put together:

2fishin2- People build their own guns because it's fun, not necessarily to save money.

carliman56 - The rob allen muzzle probably won't fit the HH barrel. According to this old thread, the RA barrel dimensions are larger than the HH's: http://www.spearboard.com/showthread.php?t=101864

As far as the handle is concerned, I don't know if the cressi will fit either. The only handles that have the right specs available online to fit the HH are the Demka handle and the Beuchat handles (non-Arka).

Hope that helps.

Sir yes Sir....

Reading his post he was all about saving money not so much about building so I was just trying to help him out with a couple other options.

Building guns is one thing....buying separate parts and assembling them that's another.

Go buy yourself a gun from a reputable manufacture, you'll be happy you did.

I agree, sometimes buying a ready made gun is much cheaper and you don't have to worry about something not matching. Having said that, I am thinking of building my own gun, but it is due to the fact that I want a few changes on my gun that nobody else does ... at least that is what I keep telling myself

i do not think that they will fit...MAKO and RA are different sizes and I think that HH is as well...I understand the desire to customize, but I think you might end up with a little bit of headache trying to get everything to fit.

I agree that you probably won't end up saving that much money by the time you're done. But if you're set on that idea, contact HH or MAKO or whoever and ask them if they can send you a sample of their barrel. They'll do it for free. You'll get a little 2-3 inch long piece so that you can try fitting muzzles/handles in it to check size.

Re: Gun built, 130cm single. advice on barrel, etc

This is a little different but there might be some useful knowledge here. I built a similar (but shorter) gun recently for cheap. I picked up a Hammerhead muzzle (I picked it up for $15 from a shop that was getting rid of everything Hammerhead) and attached it to a Rob Allen barrel a month or two back. The muzzle fit perfectly (Hammerhead makes two sizes of muzzle). I had to file down the track in the Hammerhead muzzle about a mm and from this I assume that the distance from the inner part of the HH barrel to the top of the HH track is slightly longer than the Rob Allen.

I considered the cressi handle, but decided to order an Imersion handle/trigger from Imersion.us ($33+shipping I think) which also fit perfectly, and everything turned out quite well. I shot it for the first time a week ago and have no complaints.

I'm with you on your quest for cheap DIY. You can do it.

Good luck

Re: Gun built, 130cm single. advice on barrel, etc

RA barrel $50
RA shaft $45
RA muzzle $20
Cressi handle $25
Bands bout $20

plus shipping

ive made a few like this, you just have to sand down the handle a little bit so it fits the barrel, shaft fits the trigger mech perfectly good and sits flat on the rail (if you do it right) they shoot pretty damn good compared to other top brand guns

Re: Gun built, 130cm single. advice on barrel, etc

Thank you guys for your commets, I want to built it for the experience and to have the satisfaction of making my own gun, when I said less money is because I dont want to buy the most expensive parts and then if somethings goes wrong I will loose all, if I do something low end, then when I get the hang of it I can improve it.

ryddragyn: thanks, I really like the Beuchat Marlin Carbon Hand Grip,

cditto: thanks, the imersion handle is nice too and cheap

1shot2kills: where can I buy the RA barrel>??? how did the cressi handle performed??

2fishin2, Alexrom1207, spearq8, LunkerBuster thanks for your input guys

Actually I just came back from diving thats why it took me a while to answer, tried the Mako Oceanic Pro Railgun 130 cm, shoot a cuda, mako is a beast. I can order a carbon barrel from China, they can make it with any measurements I give them but without the track, so I don't know if I should get carbon no track or aluminum with track?? also I would like to purchase from someone in the US, enough outsourcing ......

thank you guys, when I decide what to get, I'll take pics of the process, it will really be our gunm because your advice and help is priceless!!

Rabitech sells a good track that you can stick onto any barrel.

Re: Gun built, 130cm single. advice on barrel, etc

Ok , I've decided that the barrel is gonna be Rob allen, I think they have it at Fl Freedivers just not online, RA muzzle. now the only major part left is the handle, cressi comanche fits but needs a little adjustment, and some people have trouble with bigger shafts.

I like the Beuchat Marlin Handle but I don't know if it'll fit into the RA barrel??

I just sent an email to mako to ask for a sample like Alexrom1207 adviced me.

and I think I'm gonna take the trip to Fl freedivers, is 1hr 20min drive to get there.
