Got Windfinder and Sailflow on the phone. Great apps imo.

Re: Current Vis - Tampa Bay Region (Homosassa to Sarasota)

5/15 hook and line trip west of Anclote. Water looked ok in 60' and great in 70'. So blue I had a mahi swim by...and our bottom rigs were covered in gumbo. Managed a cooler full of grunts and black sea bass, not one grouper all day.

Re: Current Vis - Tampa Bay Region (Homosassa to Sarasota)

5/23/15 Anna Maria had 5 ft of vis in 30' of water. Came in to 15 ft and had 6' of vis. Windy as hell in the morning, mostly fished the whole day with the rods and reels. However it did shoot a nice 15" lion fish when exploring the the 30' reef.

SHITE vis in 35'-40' just North of John's Pass on 5/27. 5-6' vis with tons of gumbo, could barely find our ledges. I did stab a red grouper with my shaft after I missed a mangrove though lol It sucks out there right now.

Decent viz at about 20-25 in 45' and 35-40 in 55' fsw out of venice. Snotty with not a lot of fish showing themselves on natural ledges, no sharks on any of a few different trips over last week.
Go lightning!

West of John's Pass yesterday in 50-70fsw. Vis was a dirty 15-20' with lots of particulate in the column. But, most of the algae that was covering the bottom a few weeks back has subsided.

Re: Current Vis - Tampa Bay Region (Homosassa to Sarasota)

Saturday 5/30 we were 45-55 ft out of Egmont. Second the report that we saw very little of the algae we had been seeing. Particulate floating about and hazy. Vis varied a little spot to spot but was always at least 15 ft and probably closer to 25-30 most of the time. Green water. Shot some nice hogs. Saw a lot of 18 inch red grouper and a couple of big gags swimming around. Beautiful day.

Re: Current Vis - Tampa Bay Region (Homosassa to Sarasota)

Sun 5/31- went out of New Pass - south around the Icebox area in 50ft. Viz was 25-30 ft. Saw a lot of particulate in the water as well, but no algae on the bottom like a few weeks ago. Shot 2 nice hogs, however didn't see much else. 2015 hasn't seemed as 'fishy' as last season, at least in the spots I have been. Any of you boys in my area -Sarasota/Anna Maria got any tips ?

Homosassa Saturday 5-30-2015

Dove 55' and 35' west of Homosassa, TTB with 35' plus vis horizontally. Small, Medium, Big gags every spot. Got our limit of hogs in one spot also a nice red in 35' and some 2-3# mangs. No snot, no sharks, got bit on the leg by a F#@$% trigger fish. He was lucky to be out of season. Water temp 84.

Re: Current Vis - Tampa Bay Region (Homosassa to Sarasota)

Butchbal - thanks for the report. I'm probably headed to that area this weekend. Been trying to decide between Tampa or Homosassa. Last trip to sassa a few weeks ago was not so good. I had a friend in LKLD said someone gave him the same report you just posted. We may have a mutual friend in town...or just a strange coincidence. Name is Bobby?

Jonboy, I don't have any dive friends here in Lakeland named Bobby, but I know a lot of Lakelanders frequent Homosassa. Send me an email to butch@dggus.com and I'll send you a few spots. I'm doing the Cobia Big Fish tourney this weekend in Homosassa so I won't be diving, but give me a shout on channel 68 if you make it up this weekend. Hail "Badfish". I'll be fishing Sat and Sun.

I heard that the vis sucked last weekend out of Tampa.

Re: Current Vis - Tampa Bay Region (Homosassa to Sarasota)

Dove yesterday off Pinellas in 35-60 feet. Found some awesome ledges, but not a lot of fish. A few barely legal hogs, some decent mangos, saw tons of gags, no reds, no pelagics other than a few large cuda. Pretty snotty/gumbo-ey in anything less than 50 feet. No sharks, though.
