All About Pole Spears & Slings What is it about that traditional method of the early hunter/gatherers under the water? These devices are indeed interesting and effective.

Looking for band upgrade suggestions

I just picked up a Ray Odor that I intend to use as a six footer with the 30" enforcer shaft. In an alternative configuration I might use with an additional 2foot mid section. The bands it came with seem a little underpowered and I was hoping for specific recommendations on an upgrade (length and band specs).

Anyone have experience rebanding one of these? Its 5/8 solid Aluminum so should be similar to the Mako Big game or maybe a Crist 6 footer. Thanks in advance for your help. Much appreciated.

Trust me the band that ti came with is very powerful. You just need to load it to the full potential. If you dont like the band, purchase surgical tubing in the same diameter and a bit longer and re-rig the ray odor band with the new surgical tubing.

Re: Looking for band upgrade suggestions

Make your own bands, it is easy to do. I use 1/2" speargun band rubber. I like it because it has a thicker wall that the usual band rubber used on pole spears and gives me more power for the length of the pull. On a Ray Odor you might have to spiral the band around the shaft as you pull because it might be strong enough to "bow" the pole.

If you do upgrade your rubber, think of putting some sort of material in the position on the pole where you will be holdning the band while cocked. It helps you hold the band cocked for a longer length of time.

We carry bands of different lengths and thickness. We can custom make a band to your specifications and we also sell the latex tubing and other materials necessary to make your own pole speat and (speargun) bands.
