Re: Middle Grounds Hog Video
That's a legit concern. What's the weight difference between the Tideline, Prowler and Calcutta? I would think not a huge difference between them. FWIW I pulled my prior 27 Ameracat with my wife's V8 Dodge Durango without issue. Now not ideal for a long tow but still it was fine with decent trailer brakes.

Re: Middle Grounds Hog Video
Calm day we are more 35-40. Ran 30 on way to grounds trying to be smart on fuel for first trip out. I ran the last 20 miles from the grounds at 45 though getting 1.03 mpg because it was less head sea as we got closer to land and we were ready to get home.

It always best to have a smb and just dive while holding that, then whoever is on the boat has no excuse for losing your bubbles! |

Re: Middle Grounds Hog Video
I never really understood the advantages of going more than 30 mph, until I started going out further distances, and of course when either weather or wife indicated the need for a speedy return to land

BUT for me the extra $$$ for 2-3 more feet and the extra space and room isn't justified. Most of the time it is either me and my wife fishing and scalloping/snorkeling, or me and at max 3 others diving/spearing. I think a well-laid out 23 foot cat would be just as roomy as my current 25 foot WA. The extra money saved, not to mention weight savings, ability to tow easier, and having 175s-200s capable of not only high WOT speed but lower RPMs at cruise, with great MPG, makes a lot more sense to me. |

Re: Middle Grounds Hog Video
With half tank of fuel, ice, 5 divers, freedive gear:
At 35mph, 1.8mpg At 38mph, 1.6mpg At 40mph, 1.5mpg At 42mph, 1.4mpg WOT = 57mph at 1.0mpg
