Óscar Cervantes haschampion Euro-Africa in the XXXII Euro-African Cham

Óscar Cervantes has proclaimed champion of Euro-Africa in the XXXII Euro-African Championship; Alexandra Prat and Malen Sart for their part have managed to rise to second and third place respectively in the I CMAS Women's Underwater Fishing Championship. Both championships were held in Denmark and have been sadly marked by the death of Portuguese athlete Matthias Sandeck.

The Spanish male delegation has been formed on this occasion by the athletes Óscar Cervantes, Xavier Blanco, David Fdez. Montero, José Luis Fernández, Juan Vicente Pérez, Óscar Hidalgo, the technicians Patxi Díaz, José Antonio Olmedo and Captain Andreu Sureda; while the female was formed by Alexandra Prat, Malen Sart, Rosa González, Ainhoa Abellán and Captain Bernat Castell.

For two weeks they have been preparing the competition zones to be able to establish the most convenient strategy in the special current conditions present and to get used to the different types of fish and their behaviors.

On Saturday they fished in the southern area, Langeland, and both the weather and the state of the sea accompanied a good day in which fishermen left from land (remember that this championship has been done swimming) from two different points of the competition zone; in the feminine they came out of a single point. After five hours of competition, we proceeded to return to land where the catches were sealed and moved to the place of weighing. After this, Alexandra Prat was second, Malen Sart third and Rosa González sixth in the women's classification, while in the male, Oscar Cervantes was first, Xavi Blanco fifth and David Fernández Montero seventeenth. On Sunday we had to work again.

The next day, Sunday, also began in good weather and the participants of the male in boats moved to the central area of the Great Belt Bridge where the departure would take place. The females left the land area at the beginning of the bridge. Everything went very well for the Spanish team, the fishing of all our representatives aimed to improve the good results of the previous day, but what nobody wants to happen in this sport happened: the Portuguese fisherman, 31, Matthias Sandeck who was next to an Italian did not appear, the alarm sounded and, despite the efforts, he was found already deceased. A tremendous misfortune that led to the suspension of the second day of these competitions, so the first classifications were assumed as final.

Thus the first classified were finally:
