Re: Exotic timber speargun

If it looks half as good as it looks... then it is a winner. What a beauty!

Is that clear coat or epoxy?

Also, besides the absolute stunning looks... do you get any practical benefit from mixing those woods? Everyone says that mixing different woods is asking for trouble.

Re: Exotic timber speargun

Thanks Masubi!

The coating is epoxy, 7 light coats. The reason for blending the timbers was this was getting set up for a 8mm shaft and pure padauk is a little too dense for how narrow this gun is. The less dense timber was calculated so the muzzle would sink slowly with the shaft in.

I will have o relearn how to post pictures again. Changing image hosting and Spearboard removing instructions (maximum size etc) has made it very time consuming. I have a heap more guns on the table right now including a couple of rollers with Rosewood and Purple Heart which are coming along nicely.

Also my workshop is nearing completing including the fabrication of new tables.

Cheers legends.

Amazing! Looks great. Did you add any grip to the handle? Looks slick! I bet the cutouts lock you hand to the handle but... still...

Re: Exotic timber speargun

I have 4 guns with these handles and with either bare hand or glove I have found them great without adding texture (like sand impregnated epoxy). Your hand has a lot of contact area with the handle and gun. I have both black and white sand I bought for this but still have not used it on these handles. The KES handles I do though.
