Re: Current Vis - Tampa Bay Region (Homosassa to Sarasota)

I wish to formally register my complaint regarding the unquestionably awful visibility conditions that will be present over the weekend and extending into next week. Debby has dealt a grevious blow to my plans, and has washed away any chance of ending my 11-month drought of shore confinement. Never mind that the aquifer is probably completely refilled - I'd rather have been refilling my cooler.

I'm thinking about doing what Noah did - sending out a dove every day for the next 40 days or so. Then, when it doesn't return, I'll know the water is once again clear enough for barracuda to see doves.

will there be any viz on the 8 foot grounds?

my question is are we having a very low visibility but doable Sunday and Monday or should we be blowing off Homossasa altogether

No viz anywhere?? Was planning on going out Sunday but maybe not. What about deeper water?? 70- 85 ft. Do you think the middle grounds are no good too??

A friend is the deckhand on the Jolly Rodgers
A commercial dive boat out of steinahatche
He says if the middle ground Bouy reads 15 foot seas more than 12 hours it takes almost a week for the vis to come back
Well the Bouy read 15 ft seas for three days
He says they won't be diving for sometime
I'm think 70 - 80 ft won't be enough this soon
Probably gonna have to strap a tank on and start
At least in 120 150 ft
But that's just my guess
Really only one way to find out
So who ever gives it a shot
Let us know
I'm probably just gonna save fuel and troll big lip plugs
And see if I can snag one of those 15 lb gags in the bay

That's an interesting observation. And it almost reads like a haiku. I wish I had an equation for the gulf "visibility response." That would be awesome.

How about:

Where V is the visibility in feet, D is the water depth, Hmg is the maximum predominant wave height recorded at the middle grounds buoy for a period of 12 hours or more, R is the cumulative amount (in inches) of rainfall received in the past week, A is the algal bloom severity index (a scale of 0 to 5, in which 5 is the most severe algal bloom conditions).

Here is an informative post (w/ pics) from a H&L fisherman that saw pea soup vis conditions on Thursday 6/28 out to 95' near the Pipeline:
