Smaller Outboard Tank For Inflatable

I have a 12' Achilles SAR boat with a wood floor and a 15HP Honda. It's rated for 35HP, but the 15HP pushes it along at 22MPH loaded with two guys. It really sips fuel and I can make it back and forth from the far edge of PV from Redondo in maybe an 1/8 of a tank or less than a gallon.

The tank though is huge at about 5 gallons. It takes up a lot of room at the back that would better suited for nice cooler for me to sit on, and I want to go with something smaller. Then if I really need to, I can carry a small jerry can of extra fuel up front. Problem is I can't seem to find any small gas tanks for an outboard. Can anyone suggest something? There has to be something out there...

There are 3 gallon tanks, but I think that is the smallest that they make. There aren't any single gallon tanks.

What you've described is my setup: 15 hp outboard on a small boat. Three gallon tank with a spare gallon up forward. Works out well since it doesn't use much fuel at all. Economy is one of the advantages to small boats.

Re: Smaller Outboard Tank For Inflatable

I had a 6 gallon tank with my 10 hp Mercury and inflatable. Like you stated, the 6 gallon tank in way overkill.

I found a 3 gallon tank for about $20 at Academy Sports. I believe it's an Attwood brand. It is a lot narrower. I've never run out of gan with it.

typo correction.

"I've never run out of gas with it". (Not gan) Ha
