Just to clarify, do you need a spot on a boat or you're offering a spot on your boat?

Anybody know of a good place to launch a kayak in the area that isn't the harbor?

Re: Need a buddy to dive Santa Cruz tomorrow

Be careful diving Santa Cruz though...at least from lighthouse south.

I got some sort of infection in the back of my head from diving lighthouse last weekend. Mostly gone now but it was in the same place of my head as the last time I got an infection (or something). And the only other time I've had an issue like this is from last year after a dive at cowells / lighthouse area. Last year my head was so messed up I couldn't sleep laying down with my head resting on a pillow. I had to prop myself up in a corner and sleep sitting up and it lasted almost a full week. So much pain it freaked me out.

So yeah after this last mild infection I'm done with Santa Cruz diving. Even though I live here and love diving it its just not worth it. Just after my dive last weekend the news said that whole area has unsafe ecoli levels. I think the random travellers who park their rvs in the area just dump their shit down the storm drains. It's sad but until the water quality issue is solved I'm done with diving the area.

Depends where you want to hunt and what the swell is doing (Cowells is great but you can walk down any of the stairs near the lighthouse and kick out to good hunting in 5-10 mins, quicker and less hassle than a yak). If I was you I'd shore dive the spot I was telling you about though. Or shore dive north of the Lighthouse.

Gotcha. I've checked out that spot a couple times and I found some really cool structure. Definitely gonna hit it up in the winter time.

It's also good for wsb's/stripers/butts this time of year.

That sucks! I am with you on the bacteria level. I just moved to Santa Cruz, I saw so much dirt left behind from the "weekend warriors".

It must be the currents in that area, it may accumulate the bacteria, so maybe there are other spots along highway 1, north of SC, that are safe to dive, don't you think so?
